Even the wooden facade of the modest bungalow blends into the natural environment. With its irregular arrangement of windows and bountiful interior plants, the light and vegetation merge interior and exterior spaces. Inside, a light-flooded room with soaring ceilings is based on an open studio concept. By cultivating a 1970s Scandinavian aesthetic, through handpicked furnishings by the owner, a subtle retro atmosphere permeates throughout. It is overall restrained and minimalist in design, complemented by colorful accents. Wedge House boasts a queen-size double bed in the sleeping area, bathroom and fully stocked kitchen to accommodate upto two guests.

The owner's taste for vintage furniture and interest in craftsmanship is noticeable in details and little stories told by the well-chosen objects from all over the globe: from the welcoming entry facade finished in the ancient Japanese charred-wood preservation technique known as shou sugi ban, to the interior trim work made of locally harvested cypress wood which was hand-milled on site. 

This vacation home for rent in North Carolina is a stand-alone home suitable for two guests and you will have private access to the entire property which sits on a large lot backing up to the Wright Memorial National Park. In addition to the 650 square foot house, the outdoor area has a south-facing sun deck. A patio complete with a firepit stove and gas grill allow you to spend nights in the open air. Guests are welcome to use the outdoor shower which awaits you under the sky.

For music-loving guests, there is a turntable with a surround sound system and a growing vinyl collection. A large 55” smart TV with 2.1 soundbar is provided and comes complete with complimentary access to all streaming services. Fun fat tire bicycles are available to use free of charge.

AROUND

Directly from the property you can enjoy hiking, explore the area by bike (on the cabin's bikes), or take in the breathtaking sunset views from the top of the Wright Brothers National Memorial. Bike paths connect the property to the oceanfront as well as local craft breweries and restaurants where you can sample locally caught seafood dishes. Bryan and Michelle, the owners, will either share their favorite spots in person or you can read about them in the guided book provided on site. 

As the oldest township in the Outer Banks, the nearby Kill Devil Hills offers an assortment of restaurants, nightlife venues, attractions, and popular beaches. It's also a jumping off point for the less populated beaches of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, which is just 20 minutes away from the house. 

Its curious namesake derives from the local legend that the rum brewed there during colonial times was said to be strong enough to “kill the devil”. For aviation enthusiasts, Kill Devil Hills bears historical significance in having been the testing site for the Wright brothers’ first controlled airplane flights in 1903. Avalon Fishing Pier, the last wooden fishing pier built on the Outer Banks, is a popular attraction for locals and visitors alike. Here, you can rent fishing equipment to catch some local seafood of your own.  

We recommend taking a tour of the Roanoke Island Festival Park which was the location of the first permanent colony established by English settlers in North America. Sponsored by Sir Walter Raleigh himself, the entire population later abandoned the settlement under mysterious circumstances, never to be heard of again.
