Located just outside of the main city of Ponta Delgada but tucked away into a large one-acre lot of walled gardens, this beautifully restored luxury vacation home rental in Portugal is ideal for a family getaway.
Designed by renowned architect Pedro Mauricio Borges, the single-story home appeals to Portuguese tradition in its linear shape and layout yet is contemporary in its materials and monochromatic design.
Set on an angle around the exterior living spaces and gardens, the dramatic red structure features soaring wood-beamed interiors, polished concrete floors and walls of glass that frame the views. Bright and expansive, the main living area encompasses a fireside sitting area with a fully equipped kitchen and dining space.
There are three double bedrooms that can accommodate up to six guests. The en suite master has a terrace with panoramic views over the property and out to sea and the two additional rooms also have lovely private views of the gardens.
Completely enclosed, the property features lots of private places to relax or dine alfresco and includes a small farm operation of orchards and edible gardens.
SAO MIGUEL
The largest of the Azores islands, Sao Miguel is known as the Green Island for its vast plains of fertile land and mountains. The most populous in the island chain, the largest city in the archipelago Ponta Delgada is a ten-minute drive. A growing cosmopolitan center, the oceanfront city is both contemporary and historic with a mix of modern, 16th, and turn of the century architecture and great dining and nightlife.
Scenic and diverse, the island features the mountainous peaks of Pico da Vara and Agua de Pau and several beautiful lakes including the Lagoa do Fogo and Sete Cidades. The true landmark of the island is The Furnas Valley, with its volcanic thermal baths and steam vents spouting from around a beautiful lagoon.
Several notable religious festivals are held on the island, where tourists flock every year especially the feast of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres on the fifth Sunday after Easter.
