<p>One of Playa Rosa’s first villas, this one-of-a-kind property showcases original architecture by Jean Claude Gailbert and Gian Franco Brignone, founder of Careyes in 1968, with new structures by architects Alex and Lorena Possenbacher.</p>
<p>A study in curves with an alluring interplay of shifting light and shadows, the sculptural space sleeps 16 guests in six monochromatic suites, an authentic Mongolian yurt and two additional rooms. It was created in homage to Surrealism and inspired by the visionary genius of Edward James’ gardens of Xilitlia. The property stands as a lush oasis surrounded by exotic plant species, fantastical sculptures and curious objets d’art. </p>
<p>The home’s original bones are intact, with classic, open-air spaces like its Grand Palapa, secluded lounge terraces, and a bespoke Tequila Bar at its heart. The dining table seats 12, and the villa boasts a six-person staff, including two chefs, a driver, and a pair of housekeepers. </p>
<p>Interior designer Raven Kauffman has curated an eclectic mix of textiles, pottery, photography and handicrafts for rooms that stand in decorative homage to Mexico, including works by Lea Marcaccini (photography), textiles by Fey y Lola Rugs, woven light sculptures by Emma Bommkamp and handmade pottery and sculptures. The villa’s striking pool is sinuously delicious, marked by its Serpiente mosaic with 24k gold tile imported from Italy. And for sporty types, there are also kayaks and stand up paddle boards available for guest use.</p>
<h3 id="experiences">Experiences</h3>
<p>Healing and wellness experiences include massage and facial treatments, sound healing, traditional ceremonies and other healing modalities, plus yoga, private training, and Pilates sessions on site. Off site, there are chartered excursions available to explore the coast, whale watch, visit sea turtle habitats or simply enjoy the lush natural area with a guide.</p>

<p>Careyes has become a well-known wellness destination, a favorite of yogis and healers, practitioners and seekers. An exclusive private estate resort, Careyes is made up of a collection of stunning clifftop villas set in Costalegre along nine miles of the Mexican Pacific coastline. The resort was founded by Gian Franco Brignone in 1968, and has been continuously family owned and operated since then. Located in the heart of Budapest between district VI &amp; VII, this early 19th-century monument listed Neo-Gothic building is richly detailed with classic ornate elements and an interesting history. Dubbed &#34;The Pekary House,&#34; it was designed by architect Brein Ferenc for a prominent citizen and later served as a center in the famous Jewish quarter of the Kiraly neighborhood. Set within the city's Pest district just a short walk from the left bank of the Danube, it is within minutes of the Opera House at Andrassy Avenue, the Octagon, and the colorful ruin bars, shops and restaurants. <p>Part of a grand historical estate, this unique vacation rental in Greece is set on 900 acres of pristine nature sanctuary left untouched for centuries. One island in a small archipelago of 10 mostly uninhabited islands in the Cyclades, the entire chain was once the estate of a famed Ottoman general and later King George before the <a href="/article/greek-island-retreat">current family</a> bought the island in 1916.</p>

Exemplifying the style is this gorgeous villa in Granada, inspired by the Alhambra palace and located on five hectares within the rolling hills of Lecrin Valley, with its own private flowering gardens, pine forests and orchards bearing fruit and almonds.Upon entrance, you’ll be swept away by its grand courtyard with its giant star-shaped fountain. <h2 id="astatelyplantationestateinsouthernsrilanka">A Stately Plantation Estate in Southern Sri Lanka</h2>
<p>Built in 1912 to woo a bride for the son of a wealthy plantation owner, this hillside estate home is within easy reach of Galle and pristine southern beaches. The generous home has been restored to its palatial splendor, with 6-meter vaulted ceilings, interiors full of Sri Lankan antiques, and a collection of contemporary art and design across its six bedrooms. Common areas include the Room of Curiosities, a lounge/salon/game room and a sunken poolside conversation pit, while bedrooms spill out to gardens, lounge areas and lushly framed terraces.</p>
<p>There are two verandah suites offering access to the main garden via wide French doors, two luxury suites boasting a private walled garden and soaring ceilings, and two double suites opening to a lounge area and the front terrace. Four of the suites feature private baths and dressing areas, and one suite can act as a Family Suite, with bunks for four children.</p>
<p>A two-acre garden cut from the jungle at the time of restoration revealed cultivated coconut palms and orchards of cashew, mango, and tamarind that have been re-manicured. New plantings include coffee and pineapple, pepper and cinnamon, citrus and an on-site vegetable garden. The estate’s oversized pool measures 23 meters long, and an area designated “The Folly” borders the pool. An Art Deco-inspired, plush conversation pit, it's ideal for cocktail and sunset hours.</p>
<p>The kitchen is large and open plan, equipped with restaurant-quality appliances and a large table for relaxed dining and morning coffee/tea gatherings. The property has an in-house chef and offers a dedicated Dining Pavilion with a stone dining table for 20 that borders the internal courtyard. Other permanent staff include a residence manager, house keeper, and two gardeners.</p>
<h3 id="additionalinformation">Additional information</h3>
<p>There is an outdoor shower, pizza oven, giant outdoor checkerboard, outdoor movie den, plus home security, and first aid kit. And the home is suitable for a variety of celebrations and retreats.</p>
<p>Fully staffed with breakfast included. Our excellent chef will prepare all other required meals, and only the ingredients are chargeable. Optional yoga and massage services, day trips can be arranged. Wifi throughout, kitchen and bath essentials, laundry facilities, private parking.</p>
<h3 id="around">Around</h3>
<p>The residence sits on a breezy hillside outside of the village area of Weligama, on Sri Lanka’s southernmost tip, about two hours south of Colombo. Bound by vegetation, the village is reachable by tuk-tuk in 15 minutes. Weligama is best known for its gemstone trade and is also a fishing town, set along a wide horseshoe bay. There are busy fish and produce markets in town. One popular way to visit the area is by rail on the Sri Lankan Railways Coastal Explorer line that passes through beaches and coastal villages between Weligama and Colombo.</p>
<p>Walkers can enjoy strolls through the calm green rice paddies and local villages. The house is well positioned for discovering Sri Lanka's southern beaches, including Mirissa (15 minute drive, worth the drive for its vivid white sands. Beginner surfers flock to Weligama Beach for its surf schools and gentle waves. History buffs can take in Galle Fort (30 minutes), and there’s a local Buddhist temple nearby, reachable on foot along jungle pathways.</p>

Poreč and romantic Rovinj are each less than a half hour’s drive from the property, and the medieval town of Motovun, with its impressive Roman amphitheater is about 35 minutes from the villa. Istria is often referred to as Croatia’s “Tuscany,” a rolling green region famed for its foods, including coveted truffles, wines, and rich heritage. Motovun existed prior to its medieval heyday, but the town’s stunning fortified buildings and magnificent hilltop castle root it firmly in the era. Surrounded by the vineyards of the Mirna Valley flanked by the St. Marco forest, Motovun is great for gastro/oeno tourism, but also outdoor adventures including hiking, mountain biking, and even paragliding. The town hosts an annual indie film festival as well.</p>
<p>Local Sveti Petar u Šumi is named for its Benedictine monastery dating from 1174, and the 16th-century Paulines Monastery and Church of Saint Peter and Paul is a must visit. <p>Comfortably enclosing 10 guests in its classic Provençal embrace, the 350-square-meter, two-story villa flings open its pretty pastel shutters to a lush garden anchored by a pool, with an outdoor cooking zone (plancha, brazier, pizza oven), alfresco dining room, lounging pergola, boules court, and trampoline.</p>
<p>Studio Balagane transformed the space using only high-quality local materials and reimagined the roof in local style with terracotta tiles. The lime-finished exterior and bold cornerstones come from a nearby quarry and interiors are minimalist and organic, in a palette inspired by the local landscape of sand, pale earth and deep maquis-toned green found across the home’s linens, rattan and wood furnishings and designer fixtures.</p>
<p>The five-bedroom house features four en-suite bedrooms and one bedroom that offers direct access to the villa’s one-hectare garden.</p>

<h2 id="asalentinopalaceartfullytransformedintoamodernslowlivingretreat">A Salentino Palace Artfully Transformed into a Modern, Slow-Living Retreat</h2>
<p>A noble palace from the early 1900s, this boutique hotel showcases the best of authentic, historic Salento styling—star vaults, patterned cement tiles, swirling frescoes, phoenix emblems from the family crest, neo-Gothic architecture—paired with modern comforts and sustainable practices.</p>
<p>The architectural duo from Studio Lagna, along with interior designers Sabrina Panizza and Aude Laure from London’s PL Studio, have transformed the four-room, hilltop space into a design-forward guesthouse with a courtyard pool and interior garden. A large gallery foyer offers panoramic views over the Parabita countryside, and contemporary elements (such as the large, Vertigo 2MT chandelier by Petit Friture and Mineral Round tables by Ferm Living) are standouts alongside the original, sinuously curving staircase from the early 1900s.</p>
<p>Each of the palace's four suites is distinctive, themed to a landscape element, with art and color references in tribute to these natural regional highlights. Think: the DOC vineyards or olive groves that encircle the town. And, a focus on sustainability means rainwater is collected for the garden, the palace is staffed by locals, and foods for breakfast are seasonal as well as ethically and locally sourced.</p>

<p><em>Oliveto Suite</em> A suite in green, emblematic of Puglia’s olive groves, this fresco-embellished space is brightened by floor-to-ceiling windows. Its monumental bathroom is inspired by Roman baths and features a round masonry bathtub in green enamel as well as a cascade shower on original cement tiles. There’s a private balcony and coffee/tea prep space.</p>
<p><em>Magna Grecia Premium</em> Under soaring vaulted ceilings arching over original artisanal cement tile floors, this graphic room is at once ancient and sleekly modern. It has a natural stone fireplace and oversized window with a pretty view, and it’s dedicated to the region’s Grecian roots, warm and classic. Extras include a bidet, and a coffee/tea station.</p>
<p><em>Primitivo Terrace</em> Specifically designed to evoke the deep red tones of Puglia’s most celebrated wines such as Salice Salentino and Primitivo di Manduria, this room is ideal for those who value outdoor spaces, given its 25-square-meter balcony overlooking the pool and garden. The russet-hued space is warm and intimate, with a captivating bathroom (with bidet), a coffee/tea station, and lounge furnishings on the terrace.</p>
<p><em>Terra Rossa Cozy</em> A tribute to the region’s crimson-colored soil that spreads underfoot in its olive groves, this space offers whitewashed vaulted ceilings, authentic patterned floor tiles and a bathroom cloaked in reddish earthen tones. The 21-square-meter space is spare and minimalist, yet warmed by its rich color palette, offering a tea/coffee prep area and original, colorful floors.</p>
<p>Breakfast is included in all bookings. An around-the-clock concierge is available to assist with bookings, reservations, guided tours and local stylists, practitioners, and pet companions. Daily housekeeping is provided.</p>
<h3 id="around">Around</h3>
<p>This noble palace is located in the heart of Parabita, a town ideally situated between the Ionian and Adriatic Seas in Italy’s southern Salento region. Parabita covers a gentle rise that’s been inhabited since ancient times, with the town as seen today constructed during the Norman period, surrounded by fortified walls and four giant city gates. The town’s Church of San Giovanni Battista dates from the 13th century, the 16th- and 17th-century Church of the Immaculate Conception features Baroque frescos and stuccos, and there are numerous historic palaces of architectural quality, including the Palazzo d’Alfonso or Castriota, the Palazzo dei Veneziani, and the Palazzo Ferrari. The town's fortress castle dates from the 14th century, and Parabita is famed for its Venuses, kept in the National Archaeological Museum in Taranto, that reveal important prehistoric details of the region. </p>
<p>A slow-living spot for history buffs and low-key travelers alike, the town is bordered by olive and citrus groves, and the surrounding countryside is blanketed by vineyards, all offering opportunities for roaming. This part of Italy’s boot heel is also ideal for exploring the beaches along both the Adriatic and Ionian Sea coasts. Further afield, the Baroque city of Lecce makes for a great day trip, as does Gallipoli, with its one-of-a-kind harbor, beach-lined coast and neighboring community of Monopoli.</p>
