After purchasing a historic 150-year-old farmhouse, they set their sights on the adjacent farmhouse and stables which had been empty for over 50 years. Built from local granite walls over half a meter thick with oak beams and insulating hemp walls, the couple have restored the house with rustic natural materials and brocante detail that match the building's history and tone, resulting in a lovely mix of authenticity and stylish modern comforts. Opening the spaces up to the light and adding a bit more high modern accents lends it atmospheric drama and contrast.

Nestled into lovely gardens in the heart of the Bocage Mortainais, this vacation home rental in Normandy offers peace and quiet and abundance of natural space, preserving the charms and authenticity of the French countryside in an area that hasn't been overrun by tourists.

The cottage has been completely renovated with natural materials and smartly integrated modern updates that preserve its charm. The ground-floor spaces are intimate and warm with a beautiful Cantou (fireplace) of solid granite with a woodburner that's romantic and comfortable for chilly evenings in the autumn and winter seasons. The large eat-in kitchen has been outfitted with the latest appliances with a modern bistro/country kitchen feel and benefits from underfloor heating and a second woodburner.

Upstairs has been brightened and expanded with skylights that flood the three bedrooms with lovely natural light.

Combining rustic warmth with vintage and brocante furnishings, the interiors are full of personality and an inviting mix of old and new. The grounds are lush and private with outdoor dining and lounge areas to enjoy the flowering gardens in the warm Spring and Summer months.

Strategically situated in the hinterland of Mont-Saint-Michel, the Bocage Mortainais region is ideally situated to discover the beautiful beaches, charming towns, and exceptional natural parks and forests of the southern regions of Normandy.

Many historical and cultural sites are within easy reach, such as the D-day Beaches (Utah Beach and Omaha beach), historic towns like Avranches, Granville, Caen, Bayeaux and Gouville-sur-Mer “the oyster capital” of Normandy as well as the remarkable Breton cities of Saint-Malo, Fougères and Rennes for a day out. Further afield, the Channel Islands of Guernsey and Jersey make for great day trips.

Nearby Mortain is famous for its waterfall that is the largest in Western France and the village of Sourdeval is just ten minutes drive and has a lovely market every Tuesday, complete with a traditional livestock market.

Cancellation Policy	Firm The guest will receive a refund if the booking is canceled at least 60 days before the time of check-in. If the guest cancels 30-60 days before the start of the stay, they will receive a 50% refund. If they cancel within 30 days of the start of the stay, no refund will be given. All refunds are subject to a credit card fee of up to 3.5%.
Notes	Prices above are per week, per cottage, excluding the compulsory end of stay cleaning fee of 60 euros and including bed- and kitchen linen. On arrival a Security Deposit of 200 Euros in cash must be paid. If no damage has occurred, this deposit will be returned (after deduction of the charges) upon departure and after returning the keys. We are obliged to charge Tourist Tax. This tax amounts to 0.92 Euro per adult per night. Tourist Tax will be deducted from the Security Deposit at the end of the stay. The rental rates during the high season include the consumption of all water and electricity. In low and mid season the rental rates include all water consumption, and electricity consumption of 10 kWh/day. Additional electricity consumption will be charged at 0.18 Euro/kWh (cost price). A bath towel set is available for rent at 8,50 euros per week. In the high season and mid season the day of arrival is on Saturday. You are welcome from 4 pm. Departure time is before 10 am on Saturdays. In the low season other days of arrival are possible, in consultation. You can also book the cottages for a short stay (eg. midweek or weekend). A private Chef can be arranged upon request. Please note that our cottages are strictly non-smoking.
