Architect Ernst E. Anderegg Brings Abstract Angles to this Alpine Hideaway
Walk to world-class Alpine pistes from this lush and sophisticated, slightly eccentric holiday home in Switzerland. An abstract combination of traditional alpine chalet and modernist confection, the home was built by Frank Lloyd Wright associate and Swiss architect Ernst E. Anderegg.
Anderegg's designs leaned toward the mid-century Usonian ideals, and this chalet keeps the traditional lines and feel of the local architecture while the owners have outfitted it with an eclectic and exotic leopard and jungle motif. Composed of alpine wood throughout in an assortment of abstract angles, the home is in harmony with nature while adding a funky blend of exotic jungle and mid-century style.
With its fabulous location (only 20 minutes from St Moritz) and stunning mountain views, this expansive chalet offers up a unique winter wonderland.
Nestled within the forest overlooking stunning mountain views of the Alps, this holiday home in Switzerland offers exclusive privacy and seclusion and a spacious layout for large group retreats adjacent to best-in-class winter sport areas. Originally designed by the well-known Swiss architect Ernst E. Anderegg, the chalet was newly redeveloped in 2018 into a sumptuous and contemporary chalet with a spacious and luxurious take on traditional Alpine homes.
Split-level and laid out on three floors, the property is divided into two connected sections which can accommodate up to 14 guests. Anderegg's unique take on the Alpine style of the region has been retained and combined with an innovative, elegant and modern touch, and furnished with custom art and design pieces.
The ground floor opens into the entrance hall an open, modern kitchen and an adjacent en-suite double bedroom with an additional double bedroom. On the first floor, there are floor-to-ceiling windows, with the living and dining area and bar centered around the fireplace for snowy days and nights. This floor opens out to the large, sunny terrace facing the views.
The second floor houses an en-suite master bedroom and lounge area with stunning mountain views, a private balcony, and a small library, where you can lose yourself in a good read as the snow falls.
The separate apartment is directly connected to the main house and has its own external entrance. Divided into a living room (that can double as a second bedroom), with one double en-suite bedroom a small dining area and a fully-equipped apartment kitchen, it's an ideal and private space for two.

AROUND
The quaint Swiss village of Maloja in the southern Bergell Valley is an ideal starting point for excellent Alpine skiing and winter sports on the local pistes and in nearby Corvatsch.
Set at the western end of Lake Sils and the Upper Engadine lake district, it is the largest and most scenic of the lakes, and is considered one of the most beautiful in the country. The area is also perfect for exploring the wild and raw beauty of the greater Graubunden region and its endless hiking trails.
Just 20 minutes south west of the glamorous St. Moritz, a half hour to the Italian border, and ninety minutes from Davos, the rugged grandeur and remote stretches of wilderness make this an exhilarating and thankfully less traveled area for excellent skiing and sightseeing. The Italian town of Chiavenna, known for its historic center and excellent restaurants, is less than 30 minutes. The Lake Como district is an hour drive and Milan is two hours north.
LOCATION
Maloja, near St Moritz, Switzerland. Nearest Airport: Zurich & Milan Malpensa International Airports (both 2.5 hrs drive)
BEST TIME TO VISIT: World class winter sport means high season is when it starts snowing, but the area is lovely in Summer.
