Dating back over 200 years, this vacation home rental in Croatia is located in the heart of the ancient village of Vidovici, with lovely views above the Adriatic and the Istrian peninsula. One of the oldest in Vidovići, the historic house started out as a simple barn and has gone through several iterations including a small chapel that served the tiny town.

One of three distinctive properties designed by twin sisters and native Croatians, their signature style joins the traditional and the modern. Working with Austrian architect Gudrun Fleischmann-Oswald, the sisters carefully restored and altered the spaces with respect for the local architecture, using wood and stone in combination with modern construction materials and contemporary design principles that are seamlessly integrated.

Entering the house across an ancient cistern terrace (which still supplies the house with water), the spacious living and dining area shares the space with a newly designed open-plan modern kitchen. A staircase leads down to the former wine cellar on the ground floor which has been transformed into a cozy sitting room with a bathroom and can double as a sleeping space and has a separate entrance through an old stone archway. On the first floor there is an anteroom, with access to a gallery loft space that can sleep up to two guests, as well as an entrance to a double en-suite bedroom.

With great contemporary features and design detail, the interiors are cool and uncomplicated with a smart collection of mid-century and restored furnishings and decor and an atmosphere of peace and relaxation.

AROUND

Located within the tiny village of Vidovici, the house's location is perfect for exploring this quiet region of Croatian islands with lovely pebble beaches and the famous blue cave underwater passage just a short drive away. 

The small fishing village of Martinscica is a three minute drive while the larger medieval town of Cres situated in a beautiful bay is just over 30 minutes north. The ancient towns of Osor and Lubenice are both within 30 minutes and host great summer music festivals and spectacular history.
