The picturesque coastal town of Montezuma is just an 8-minute drive from the house. Located along the Nicoya Peninsula’s eastern coast, the town is an artsy boho kind of place, laid back and very informal, perfect to slow your pace! Montezuma welcomes travelers of every stripe to its small bars, restaurants and uncrowded beaches (Playa Grande for surfing, Playa Las Manchas for snorkeling).
Just a short, half hour drive takes you to the other two famous Pacific Coast beach-and-surf destinations, Mal Pais and Santa Theresa - together the three towns create a fabulous 'triangle of fun’ on this tip of the southern Nicoya Peninsula, truly one of the most unique places Costa Rica has to offer! Due to its relative remoteness, this area has retained its vibrant natural beauty, unspoiled by over-development - world class surf breaks, white sand beaches and the protected Cabo Blanco Reserve at the tip. Also Tortuga Island makes for a great day trip!

Montezuma, Costa Rica. Nearest airport: San Jose Airport to Tambor Airport (30 min flight and 30 min drive to Montezuma) Driving from San Jose takes about 4-5 hrs. (1.5 hours to Puntarenas, 1.5 hour car-ferry across the Gulf of Nicoya to Paquera, 1 hour to Montezuma).
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Dry season is late November through April, summer is moderate with the heaviest rains falling in September and October.
