Located in the center of old town Omis along the Dalmatian coast, this traditional stone house was transformed from its historic roots into a chic and modern vacation home rental in Croatia.
Working with Croatian architect and interiors designer Mario Furcic, renovations were done in cooperation with historical preservation experts to ensure compliance with the original architecture and cultural importance.
The exterior stone facade gives way to bright, whitewashed interiors with the original rustic timbers and exposed stone skillfully integrated with sleek but natural wood floors, glass and tile. Rising three stories high, the narrow profile reverses the traditional layout with three double bedrooms on the ground floor, the sitting room in the middle and the eat in kitchen at the roof line which opens out to a spacious dining terrace with fabulous views of the Adriatic, the mountains and the town.
Furcic carefully ensured that each detail was authentic, creating the perfect synthesis of traditional building methods and modern materials while artists Silvio Vujcic and Lidija Bosevski created the glass walls, textiles and fine art found throughout the house.
Head up to the private rooftop terrace to grill up the fresh catch of the day, soak in the hot tub and admire the panoramic views.
THE DALMATION RIVIERA
The port town of Omis and the surrounding riviera along the Dalmatian coast packs a lot of diversity into a small area with a unique combination of sea, rivers and mountains, as well as a rich history and cultural heritage. Dating back to Roman times, the region was part of both the Venetian Republic and the Austrian Empire, and was subsequently famous for its long history of piracy and intrigue.
With a maze of winding narrow streets and a jumble of red-tiled residences, the area is charming and historic with access to several good beaches including the nearby Blue Flag designated Punta. The vertical mountain behind the old town and the interior feature good hiking and the neighboring islands of Brac, Hvar and Korcula make good day trips by boat. Croatia's second largest city, Split is under an hour north.
