A Bohemian Hideaway on Holbox Island
A Bohemian hideaway that artfully blends the style and influences of the Yucatan, Morocco, and the southwest, this villa for rent in Mexico lies along the shores of tiny Holbox Island, where you can escape to a (mostly) undiscovered corner of the Yucatan.
Just a short walk from the beach and the center of Holbox village, the house is nestled among the coconut groves in a peaceful and private hideaway, yet near to all that the island has to offer. It's a pristine and dreamy space with cool whitewashed walls and a rustic-luxe design aesthetic and from the rooftop lounge, you can catch the island sunsets and the nighttime stars.
Guests have access to the second-level loft space and living area with a shady palm-fringed balcony for reading and siestas as well as a cozy double bedroom adjacent to a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom. Designed with an eye for detail, the carefully selected furnishings, art, and decor create a serene balance of earthiness and style. The spiral staircase winds up to the rooftop terrace and sun deck with a yoga shala and bungalow lounge. It's the ideal spot for lazy afternoons in the hammock, sunset cocktails, and balmy stargazing by night.

Around
Located off the coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula and separated from the mainland by the Yalahau Lagoon, Holbox Island is part of the Yum Balam Nature Reserve between the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Rich in biodiversity and marine life, you can spot sea turtles and whale sharks in the waters off the coast and flamingos and sea birds strolling the shores.
The tiny main village on the northwest side of the island is a laid-back mosaic of shoreline cantinas and thatched whitewashed bungalows, vendors, and shops, and the main town square where the colorful remnants of the annual arts festival have left the town’s walls covered in art, murals and graffiti.
Much of the rest of the island is largely uninhabited and covered in mangroves and sandy coves for exploring like nearby Playa Punta Coco.
Location
Isla Holbox, Mexico. Nearest Airport: Cancun International Airport is 150km from the small coastal town of Chiquilá from where the ferry to Holbox Island departs. The crossing takes about half an hour.
Best time to visit
Year-round but the best weather easily extends to the summer months, May and June with some of the most beautiful days.
