Karan and Carrie are an English/American couple who had been living in Goa for over a decade. One day Karan came upon an old, dreamy Goan bungalow that he hoped to renovate. After realizing the impossibility, he kept the land but set about creating the villa of his dreams instead.

Set inside lush, tropical gardens filled with banana, coconut and papaya trees frequented by exotic butterflies and birds, Lua Cheia (which means full moon in Portuguese) cuts an impressive figure with its sprawling colonial-inspired facade and romantic wraparound verandah.

Upon entrance, you might notice the soaring angles of the ceilings or light bouncing off the marble floors. Perhaps you'll take note of the unique pieces of antique furniture (from India Jane, Karan's family business) in natural textures and colors, brightened with pops of creamy chartreuse and melon, or the pattern of a banana leaf pillow. The whole home is full of windows and well-preserved original touches like vintage cement tiles and tall, antique wooden doors.

Lua Cheia accommodates up to 13 guests, with six bedrooms and five bathrooms. All have ensuite bathrooms, and three have their own outdoor areas, while one leads out to a charming rooftop watchtower (climb up for spectacular views).

On the grounds, monkeys chase low-hanging fruit from the trees while a private riverside shala provides a peaceful setting with birds and breeze, perfect for a group yoga class of up to 20 people. Other relaxation diversions could include a sway or nap in the hammock or a peaceful afternoon by the pool.

The grounds also feature a separate bungalow called Luazinha, which has two simple bedrooms, a charming open-plan living space and bathroom. The bungalow is nestled in a private garden, and can provide extra capacity for larger groups.

STRADDLING JUNGLE, RIVER AND SEA

The property is located in Canacona, an area renowned for its world-class beaches where you can swim, sunbathe or watch the dolphins or fishermen go about their days. Talpona, Patnetm and Galgibag Beaches specifically are all less than 10km from the villa. Further inland, you will find Goa for magical natural havens like the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary or temples such as the 16th century Mallikarjun, known to be one of the oldest in the state.

Arriving in the 16th century, the Portuguese influence in Goa extends throughout the state with ornate baroque architecture, forts and cathedrals leaving their mark along with traditional cuisine and Fado music. Blessed with tropical interiors, a magnificent fusion of history and golden sand beaches from top to toe, Goa is rich with diversity, flavor and beauty. The state capital of Panjim is a one hour and 45 minute drive.
