Conversant With Nature, a Glass-Fronted Cabin in the Netherlands
On the skirts of Gorssel is a walled green garden lush with bamboo and rhododendron; light flickering through tall trees. The cabin nestled inside was designed by the brilliant minds behind Island Cabin.
One eye-catching attribute of the 80 m2 dwelling is its walls; masoned with 'wasters'; this technique is where specially-shaped bricks are created during the firing process, resulting in a beautiful effect that calls up the nature-inspired works of Frank Lloyd Wright. Another is the huge glass facade (you'll actually wake up to natural light if you're staying downstairs!)
Once inside the cabin, you'll see a loft with an elevated sitting area and a suspended Bordolet wood stove, then a kitchen with a bar and a double bedroom with a bathroom. The interiors are finished with Frake Noir, a walnut-like, thermally modified wood. This cabin in the Netherlands can accommodate up to five guests, with one upstairs bedroom that has blinds, if you prefer to outsleep the sunrise.
Morning laps can be accomplished in the natural (unheated) swimming pool with a 13-meter swimming lane that runs parallel to the cabin. The filter contains lava rocks, which quickly heat the pool in the warmer months. Note: please weigh the risks of the swimming pool if bringing kids.

The cabin is tucked away on a tiny road and located on the skirt of Gorssel, a beautiful village surrounded by forests. The village has a small dining scene and an art museum. A 10-minute drive from the cabin are the Hanseatic cities (merchant cities that sprouted during the Middle Ages) of Deventer and Zutphen.
