A veritable barefoot beachfront sanctuary, this whitewashed villa for rent in Zanzibar occupies a stretch of gleaming sand bordered only by the limpid turquoise tide. An expansive rooftop terrace hung with hammocks and anchored by a long dining table and barbecue makes the ideal spot for entertaining, plus the property’s onsite shopping and catering staff adds to the convenience.
The home is made up of two separate units that can be combined or kept separate. Rented in its entirety, two pools offer cushioned loungers and thatched umbrellas and pergolas. The beachfront façade is covered in shaded balconies, each one set with cushioned armchairs for luxurious unwinding. The covered balconies open out of four of the villa’s six king bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms offer sofa beds for overflow sleeping and two feature en-suite baths with showers. Four additional baths with showers are located on the ground and first floor hallways, and the home can accommodate a crowd of 20, via multiple sofa sleepers.
Interior décor is breezy and minimal throughout, with beach villa decor favorites such as cane lampshades, seagrass rugs, exotic wood tables, and crisp white linens, all accented with artisanal objects such as wall hangings and throws.

Zanzibar is an unspoiled Indian Ocean archipelago off the east coast of Tanzania favored by adventure seekers for its unique melting pot of Arabic, Indian, African and European influences. The island is known for its breathtaking gemstone blue waters and dazzling beaches of talc-colored sand, and also for its ornate architecture and vibrant market scene. It’s an ideal spot for snorkeling, scuba diving, kite surfing and general splashing.
The Bwejuu area around the villa presents a relaxed atmosphere, uncrowded tidal beaches, and interesting small villages. A number of restaurants and cafes and minimal services are available a short walk down the tranquil beach and the nearby kite-surfing destination of Paje, a 10-minute drive from the villa, offers nightlife, live music and hotels, inns and services. Also nearby is Jambiani, where seaweed is farmed and women harvest the tangles at the beach during low tide. A national park in the easily accessed Jowani Forest is home to rare red colobus monkeys and mystical mangrove swamps.
Also worth visiting on the opposite side of the island is Zanzibar’s capital city, Stone Town, a lively and colorful urban labyrinth, where the spice trade has been going strong for over 500 years, and seafood stalls and markets are abundant. Street food aficionados will appreciate the dizzying Forodhani Garden night market, where cooks turn out foods from seafood in every form, to shwarma, tandoori and samosas.
