The property’s managers all grew up enjoying the region of Empordà’s little-known forests, seashores and traditional villages, and they have created a menu of local experiences—from Mediterranean sailing tours to air balloon flights, perfumery and wine courses to ceramic workshops and historical visits—all led by regional professionals.
Other pretty villages with strong medieval backdrops and tight alleys echoing ancient times include nearby Peratallada and Pals, Monells, and Madremanya. Just outside of Ullastret, on the nearby peak, Monte de Sant Andreu, is the region’s largest archaeological site, the 2,500-year old Iberian settlement ruins and Catalonia’s Archaeology Museum.
Also easily accessible is the rugged Costa Brava, the Mediterranean coast stretching from Barcelona to Spain’s border with France, known for its secluded coves, tiny fishing ports and dramatic bays. Montgrí National Park, one of the coast’s virgin ecological zones offers seafront caverns and underwater caves, and the property’s hosts can arrange sailing, swimming or snorkeling trips along the Costa Brava.
