AROUND
Several coves come together to form the ancient fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell, a Costa Brava harbor town of narrow streets, steep rooflines and traditional, two-story fisherman’s homes. The rocky seafront is a favorite of water sports enthusiasts, hikers and cyclists, all of whom gather along the coast. The village has been certified regionally as a “place of special beauty,” and the town’s steep cobbled streets and vaulted entries, formerly the modest haunts of fishermen and the mongers selling their catch, now serve as cafes and taverns.
In nearby Palafrugell, the area’s most populous village, a 10-kilometer coastal path and 4-kilometer greenbelt offer protected cycling and walking. The nearby village of Llafranc features a sandy bay and wide pedestrian esplanade from its port, topped by the Church of Santa Rosa de Lima. A coastal path extends to Tamariu, a wild coastal village tucked into the rocky coastline with coves around it that are accessible only from the water.
