A Tale of Vibrant Umbrian Living
Situated on the first floor of an old stone building that dates back about 100 years, Apartment Limone is as much an artful place to stay, as it is a delightful spritz of cheer.
“I tried to imbue the home with character,” says owner Andrea, who painted the rooms with bold, uplifting colors and found a vintage rattan sofa that he covered with pillows from Turkey and Asia. Andrea owns a few other properties in the area that have been featured in design magazines, including Barbanera Villa, part of the BoutiqueHomes collection.
Take your espresso on the large balcony with French doors and enjoy a stunning panorama of the rolling Umbrian hills. Outside your door, you’re steps away from the central square of charming Spello, a hillside town that slopes up Saint Francis’s mountain, Monte Subasio. Watch the medieval city turn peach at sunset, as the light reflects off the stone buildings, built from the pink marble of the mountain.
Then it’s on to Italian life at its best, whether it be a truffle hunt, cooking class, or wine tasting. A bright and lively apartment in Spello, Limone is a perfect home base for exploration.
This apartment in Spello is perfect for two people, with an open yet cozy living room with a seating area and a fully-equipped kitchen. From the living room is a bedroom with a king-size bed, spacious wardrobe and a large window overlooking the Umbrian hills. The modern bathroom is equipped with a walk-in shower, toilet and sink.

AROUND
Known as the “green heart of Italy”, this region of Umbria is one of the most picturesque holiday destinations with pristine largely rural landscapes, rolling wooded hills, mountains and valleys and of course splendid art and architecture. Situated a two-hour drive from Rome and just a few miles from Assisi, the enchanting hillside town of Spello is a quieter and less travelled medieval town at the base of Mount Subasio.
Standing on the west side of town are the magnificent 18th-century era Porta Venere gates flanked by two 12-sided towers and fortress walls. Known for its excellent Umbrian cuisine, fine wines and beautiful antiquity, Spello is the ideal base from which to explore Umbria. You are within easy reach of the famous neighboring hill towns of Orvieto, (with its legendary cathedral) Todi, Città di Castello, Gubbio, Perugia, Spoleto and the highly praised wine-producing region of Montefalco.
Owner Andrea, who lives in the area, also recommends Foligno for shopping and authentic daily Italian life, and Bevagna as a charming small town. “The central square is the most beautiful in the Southern Umbrian Valley,” he says. In Perugia, Umbria’s state capital, the National Gallery and the Perugina chocolate museum are noteworthy, and in Montefalco, try the famous Sagrantino wine. Montefalco is nicknamed “Umbria’s balustrade” for its 360º views. Finally, there is Assisi, the mystical town of St. Francis, a destination of pilgrims and art lovers alike.
