WATERFRONT WONDERLAND
Cape Coral is a lighthearted community where many of its residents have migrated to enjoy the relaxed lifestyle. Many also come here to escape harsh winters. It is a boater's dream; a breezy sail across the Caloosahatchee River to the islands of Sanibel, Captiva and the Lee Island coast.
In the high season, Fort Myers Beach and Country Club is abuzz with activity, and is just 8.4 miles from the house. Palmetto-Pine and Del Tura Golf and Country Club are also favorites of the owners, and both are nearby.
In tune with the easygoing spirit here, shopping is also a popular pastime. Edison Mall (9 miles away), the Bell Tower Shops (11 miles) and the Pine Island Shopping Center (6 miles) are great places to refresh your wardrobe or grab a bite to eat.
History buffs should consider booking a tour of the winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, sprawling across 20 acres of historical buildings and botanical gardens. The rose garden at Cape Coral Historical Museum is also a lovely stroll, after visiting the building and learning about the area's rich past.
Families can also find high entertainment value in Cape Coral; the Sun Splash Water Park is Southwest Florida's largest of its kind, with over 14 acres of pools, slides and a lazy river.
BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT: Year round. High season lasts from late October into early May.
