Modernist Meets Traditional in Beachside Sagunto
This striking beach house in a secluded and tranquil neighborhood in Sagunto, Valencia, dates back to the late 1960s. It was recently acquired by new owners and given a complete makeover, with the help of interior designer Sergio Bonaque. The house is a single-floor residence with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The essence of the original modernist-style architecture has been retained, while traditional Mediterranean elements and mid-century design pieces have been added.
Four large sliding doors lead from the living room, kitchen and master bedroom onto the large terrace, with its pool. This indoor-outdoor flow and bright, airy feel is emphasized by the pale marble floor that extends throughout the home.
The owners chose dry stone walls both inside and out that use a traditional artisanal technique. With its Gaggenau appliances and iroko wood paneled walls (and matching dining table), it’s a sleek and elegant space. It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, large garden and swimming pool, making it an ideal beach house rental in Spain for families or friends sharing.
AROUND
Ca Gabi is located in Sagunto, an ancient Roman city dating back more than 3,000 years. The town's hilltop fortress is a Spanish National Monument, a maze of crenellated walls and massive castle, the oldest part of which contains remains of a Roman forum and colonnades. The town has its own beach and port area, offering a wide stretch of sand, and the medieval center of Sagunto has many boutiques, restaurants, services, shops and taverns.
Sagunto is just 28km from Valencia, Spain's third-largest city, located on the Mediterranean Sea. Valencia offers classic urban activities—culture, gastronomy and nightlife, and is considered the birthplace of paella, one of Spain's best known and much loved national dishes. A green park winds its way through the city for miles, running along the banks of the Turia River. The park is punctuated by the futuristic waterfront buildings of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, a striking arts and science complex designed by notable local architect Santiago Calatrava. Architecturally, Valencia is rich in variety, a city combining contemporary and modernist gems, a cobbled old town, and Romanesque, Moorish, Gothic and Rococo structures. The city's Gothic La Lonja de la Seda is a UNESCO World Heritage classified building, and Valencia's 13th-century cathedral displays Roman temple and Moorish mosque remains within it. Notable "green" spaces in Valencia include a wetlands reserve with a lake and trail system and twelve miles of long, sandy beaches.
