A Contemporary Oasis in an Ancient Village Alleyway
Open this traditional village townhouse’s door and enter a crisp, contemporary world splashed with modern art made by friends and a well-ordered pool garden lush with citrus and palm. You'll also find a bright green turf and potted plants, plus dining and lounging areas enclosed in exposed stones, with views of the neighboring, tiled rooftops.
An ancient townhouse on a cobbled side street, this fresh, bright villa for rent in Mallorca is the kind of contemporary reimagining we can get behind. Whitewash and stone let you time travel inside, though everything about this village residence signals sleek modern living.
Between the refinished wood floors and stained or painted ceiling beams, bright art and mod furnishings enliven the old home. The well-equipped kitchen glints in stainless steel, and the pervading theme might best be described as fresh and white, a vivid space that gets its notable color and punch from paintings, large scale photography and cool modern sculpture, plus urban-inspired fixtures and furnishings.
Outside, the home’s small garden is publication-pretty, a well-organized, cottage-styled courtyard space with cushioned lounge seating, an alfresco dining platform, and a small, emerald-tiled swimming pool scented by jasmine.
AROUND
This villa for rent in Mallorca is located in Selva. A quiet inland village, it offers a glimpse of traditional Mallorca and serves as a great base for exploring the island, given its central location. The village’s stony streets are steep, narrow and winding, with citrus trees and a cute town square, plus weekly markets and annual festivals. Relatively isolated, the town offers an oasis of calm for those seeking a low-key, genuine holiday getaway. A weekly market fills Selva’s square each Wednesday morning, and an annual herb fair animates the town each June.
Nearby Inca is known for its leather crafts, and the neighboring village of Caimari is famed for its fruity, slightly peppery olive oil. The central region of Mallorca is only about 30 minutes from the island’s better known coasts, and this inland area offers easy access to the isle’s “backbone” mountain range, the UNESCO World Heritage designated Tramuntana range. A nirvana for hikers and rock climbers, the Tramuntana are wild and jagged, the peaks embracing two mountain lakes, isolated villages, and remnants of ancient stone terraces and walls. Road cyclists train on the island’s network of steep inland roads, but it’s only on foot that some of the mountains’ treasures can be experienced. For example, the dramatic Torrent de Pareis cascade crashes deep within a sheer, rocky valley, and the Ruta de Pedra Sec offers a scenic pedestrian-only network of trails extending between Andratx and Pollença, with refuges for rest along the way.
