A Sculpted Concrete Gem
Created in 2021 by Mexican architectural design studio Recoveco, this elegant home in Tulum is filled with unexpected details that we love. Located on the outskirts of the laid-back beach town of Tulum on the Mayan Riviera, it's tucked into the trees, giving it a cool, jungle feel. But the design is urban and contemporary, sculpted into sleek concrete shapes with decorative blocks that create dynamic accents. With three bedrooms, it has enough room for six guests, making it ideal for a family or group of friends.
On the ground level, windowed walls slide open to create a compelling indoor-outdoor space. Inside, the living room with kitchen and diner bar, meets outside, the garden with its lovely pool, palms and hammock. The unexpected details include panoramic shuttered windows on the upper level that open wide to create balconied spaces, striking poured concrete bathtubs with light that filters through cored block walls, and a concrete staircase composed of delightfully incongruous lines.
There are three bedrooms in this villa for rent in Mexico. Two are upstairs, each with a queen bed, full bathroom and restful natural lighting. One even has a Jacuzzi. The ground floor studio has a king bed, full bathroom, and garden access.
AROUND
This villa for rent in Mexico is located in Tulum on the Mayan Riviera. Nearby ancient archaeological treasures and spectacular coastal beauty have seen the Mayan Riviera area expand with tourism in recent years, but with over one million acres of protected biosphere to explore in the UNESCO Sian Ka’an and Parque Nacional Tulum, there’s room to explore.
The coastal resorts are bustling, but the town nestled into the jungle along the highway is much more low-key, with cheap and delicious eats and quieter streets away from the hustle.
The towns of Valladolid, Merida Bacalar, Playa del Carmen and Akumal, as well as the ancient Maya ruins of Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Ek Balam, Coba, Muyil, Xel-Há, are all within reach for day trips. Cozumel and Isla Mujeres are off the coast to the north close by. Cancún is the entry point for the area and is just over 90 minutes by car.
