A Vibrant Hacienda Designed by House + House Architects

A feast for the senses, this vacation home for rent in San Miguel de Allende designed by House + House architects is a vibrant and imaginative interpretation of a modern hacienda. Awash in vivid colors, with strong architectural forms, it’s a dynamic and contemporary home saturated with the deepest of Mexican traditions.

Just a few blocks from the Jardin and main square in the heart of San Miguel Allende, this vacation home for rent in Mexico is a sensory delight of color, meticulous craftsmanship and an innovative approach to modern design.

Designed by award-winning architects House + House, the house was inspired by their world travels and the traditions and culture of the centuries old town. Featured in numerous books and design magazines, it is part of a portfolio of properties designed by the couple who specialize in creative and inventive ways of interpreting sustainable, contemporary design.

Working with local craftsmen, the duo used colorful polished concrete and custom stone, hand crafted tile and iron work along with an extensive amounts of glass throughout that illuminates the interiors. Organized around a central courtyard, the ground floor living spaces are lofty and bright with a large open plan living room with a fireplace and dining area that flow together with an ancient wooden table at the center that seats up to ten. The fully-equipped kitchen is just steps up from the living areas.

An arch of burgundy columns set against a deep blue wall with sparkling stars opens into the en suite master bedroom with a private garden. Opening out to an ancient pomegranate tree, the master bath features an extraordinary tiled mural in cobalt, ochre, green and burgundy sparkling with droplets of filtered sunlight. A sinuous stairway snakes up to two double bedrooms each with a private balcony and shared covered terrace and bath with skylight views.

Walls are washed with natural minerals in saturated colors of mango, cobalt and soft green with floor to ceiling steel windows bringing light and a sense of indoor/outdoor living into the house.

The courtyard is an oasis of calm with locally quarried slate and river rock patterns, deep burgundy concrete accents, and columns and counters inlaid with glass beads. It’s the heart of the house and the ideal spot for dining at the 200-year-old carpenter’s table, and lounging within its cool tranquil center.

Head up to the rooftop for amazing views of the city and enjoy the designs and colors of contemporary Mexican architecture in this award-winning house.

Additional features

Housekeeping and laundry service included three days a week with optional cooking services at additional charge. Wifi throughout, cable TV with DVD player, stereo audio system and CD player. The entire house is equipped with a water purification system.

Around

Located in the most central part of San Miguel in a quiet and picturesque neighborhood, you are in the very heart of the city and within just a few minutes walk to El Jardin central square and the fabulous Fabrica Aurora Arts/Restaurant Center. The area is one of the most sought after and photographed “secrets” in town, reminiscent of hidden alley streets found in the historical Hill Towns of Spain or Italy.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city’s stunning beauty is partially due to its colonial past and is filled with architectural, historic and cultural treasures. Nearby towns and cities of Guanajuato, Dolores Hidalgo or Queretaro make great day trips, and it’s a couple of hours north west from Mexico City.
