Beach House Inspiration by Bosco Sodi & Década Muebles
Every element of this beach house is meant to connect guests to nature. Designed by Bosco Sodi, the founder of Fundación Casa Wabi, with interiors by Década Muebles, this villa for rent in Mexico is secluded within a patch of dense vegetation, creating an immersive hideaway on the Pacific coast, a short drive from the town of Puerto Escondido and a 15-minute walk from Casa Wabi itself.
Casa Liebre offers guests the opportunity to slow right down and make time for gentle introspection. The natural setting between the Sierra Madre Mountains and nearby ocean makes for a uniquely relaxing space, with the ever-present sound of crashing waves lulling visitors into a meditative state.
Composed of all-natural materials that feed off their surroundings, this space is a glorious patchwork of thatched roofs, terracotta bricks, and concrete floors. The compound is made up of a massive, open-air main palapa and living space with a soaring ceiling, a dining table that can fit up to 12 guests, and a huge open kitchen and bar. There are three main bedrooms, each with one king-size bed and two singles plus a private terrace. The fourth bedroom has one king bed. Cool off in the private pool, or take a walk down the path to the shore to disconnect and recharge.
This home comes to us from Fundación Casa Wabi, created in 2014 by Mexican artist Bosco Sodi. The concept behind all that the foundation does comes from the Japanese idea of wabi-sabi, the acceptance of transcience and imperfection. Casa Wabi, their flagship residence, was designed by Pritzker-winning Tadao Ando and a collective of renowned architects as a space for creative interaction, where residents and local communities come together.
Immersed within the wild beauty of the Oaxacan coast, this home is an indulgent hideaway for up to 14 guests. We invite you to explore all homes from Fundación Casa Wabi here, and to read more about the foundation in our Stories section here.

AROUND
Located along a remote stretch of Pacific coast, the port town of Puerto Escondido lies at the end of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range, just over 100 miles from the inland capital of Oaxaca. Arranged around a picturesque bay dotted with gigantic rock formations, the area is divided between Bacocho Beach on the north end, the Playa Principal resort area in the middle, and the famous surfing beach of Zicatela on the south end. Considered one of the top 10 surfing destinations in the world, Puerto Escondido is famous for its huge waves and frequent surf competitions, and the town also comes to life at night, with parties until dawn.
Be sure to visit the wildlife and mangrove forests of Laguna de Manialtepec just 20 minutes from the house and the ecological reserve and turtle sanctuaries of Ventanilla. Watch for the bioluminescent tides at night, where you can swim in the sparkling waters.
