Two symmetrical blocks on a quiet beach, this minimalist, open-air home was designed for simplicity and serenity—a deserted island-styled idyll turned modern retreat, featuring one independent living/sleeping quarter and a neighboring cooking/sleeping quarter connected by a boardwalk-styled wooden deck set above the sand. Serenity is the rule here—clean lines, white walls over concrete floors, and soothing sand-toned furnishings. A vast driftwood-inspired table occupies the boardwalk, intentionally placed to spur creativity, slow living and conviviality. Open to the elements via large windows and accordion doors, the space draws eyes outwards to the dramatic motion of the windblown coast and the stunningly starry skies at night.

AROUND

Located an hour north of Natal, the home is located on the Sitio São Pedro, an active ranch set on an empty stretch of beach facing the Atlantic. Sao Miguel do Gostoso beach is a destination for wind sports practitioners, highly regarded by kite and wind surfers alike for its unique location at the “edge” of the country. The beach in front of the house is a kite surfer’s paradise, a point known to locals as one of the top spots of the area. Located a mile from Sao Miguel do Gostoso on the northeastern coast, the town draws wind sports athletes for its prime location where Brazil’s eastern and northern winds meet. That said, its remote location keeps the vibe secluded and slow moving. White sands, crystal blue waters, and 300 days of sunshine make other beaches worth exploring too. Go to Tourinhos with its rock formation, Galinhos with its windswept dunes, and the Praia do Cardeiro, where a lagoon extends into the sea. Peaceful and isolated, the region is a place to slow down and dial life back, a region of small fishing villages and little populated dirt streets, that keep the focus on the sea.
