Steps from the Pacific in Troncones
Located on a semi-private Pacific bay, this two-story, minimalist modern house was inspired by lofts, designed with raw, boxy styling, and softened by an interior palette in soft shades of grey. The sustainably focused, off-grid property is solar powered, with filtered water and a blackout emergency plant.
The primary bedroom is a king suite with high ceilings, sea blue accents and an oceanview bathroom, and there’s a junior suite with a small sitting area that shares the bathroom. All the home's big windows look out to the Pacific that's literally steps from home. Toes in the sand is made easy here, with the property’s umbrellas, towels, bodyboards and lounge chairs, and the greater area is home to surfing, kayaking and fishing, with mountain biking and yoga also popular.
Around
The Pacific coast getaway of Troncones is considered to be one of Mexico’s “most underrated” beach zones, backed by the Sierra Madre mountains and about an hour north of Zihuatanejo. Troncones has become a low-key bohemian wellness mecca, a place where long-term residents and fishermen coexist easily with yogis, surfers and sunseekers. Local restaurants serve the daily catch, and there are miles of golden sand and virgin beaches. Pelicans skim the waters, and endangered sea turtles lay their eggs in the region’s sands, and the coast is pocked with tidal pools.
Surfers have kept Troncones as a tightly guarded secret, and there’s a variety of surf spots/breaks up and down the coast. While the town is small, there are basic groceries/necessities, a produce stand and beverage delivery trucks arriving regularly. Pretty handmade goods are available at informal pop-up stands, and one of the small hotels hosts a weekly artisan market. Beachside stands and cute palapas offer fresh-from-the-water ceviche. For outings beyond the Pacific, there are guided kayak tours of the nearby estuary, a haven for birds, wildlife and freshwater turtles under the coco palms.
