A Pacific Palapa Villa by Oficio Taller Architects

Inspired by its lush natural surroundings where the jungle meets the coastline, this Pacific beach villa by Mexico-City-based, women-led studio Oficio Taller is an oasis of amenities, where a pool stretches lazily in the sun, a yoga studio is tucked under the palapa’s fronds, and sleek architectural rooms open to lush gardens. The property benefits from on-site caretakers and a private chef who serves a menu of Mexican coastal cuisine. Plus, it’s got eco-credentials. A solar-powered home (with battery backup), it also features an advanced water treatment system to upcycle water for landscaping.

The villa has six bedrooms, each with a private entry, dedicated workspace, and ensuite bathroom equipped with waterfall showers and custom sinks. Two of the bathrooms feature custom tubs. There are four king bedrooms and two queen bedrooms, one queen featuring lofted twins for four guests, the other set with a queen sofa bed for two guests. There are two additional half bathrooms. The villa sleeps 14 guests in total.

Common areas are situated in the palapa and include the yoga and meditation loft with equipment for six, a spacious living area offering 180-degree ocean views and a pair of oceanfront terraces surrounded by lush landscaping. The dining room’s centerpiece is its bespoke, tropical wood table for 14. And the adjacent open-plan kitchen offers bar seating at its island. Combining sleek contemporary styling and plenty of local panache, the home’s interiors were finalists in Mexico’s Interceramic Awards for Residential Interiors.

Outside, the pool terrace offers luxurious lounging on floating daybeds in view of the rolling Pacific. Dining tables and an entertainment area with a bar, grill, and woodfired pizza oven means mealtimes can be alfresco affairs. Paths lead through the dense jungle garden down to the beach past an outdoor shower. The house is named for the Roman goddess of gardens and orchards, and there are patio gardens connecting the bedrooms and green roofs surrounding the palapa.

Additional features

A popular in-house cook creates Mexican family-style menus, and guests can choose from a range of options to create their own meal plan for the length of their stay. Costs are calculated per item, per person, in collaboration with guests.

Daily housekeeping is provided. Events and photoshoots are allowed at an additional fee and with prior permission only. Stays of seven nights or longer benefit from laundry service.

Around

Located on the oceanfront, on a section of coastline with rocky outcroppings lending privacy, this newly constructed villa sits steps from the Pacific on the northern tip of Manzanillo Bay. A four-minute walk from the villa through the rocky area leads to the center of the crescent-shaped bay. Expert surfers enjoy the break on the bay’s southern edge, and it's great for boogie boarding and spearfishing as well.

On-site caretakers can assist with reservations at local restaurants or guiding companies, and there are many recreation opportunities in Troncones and neighboring towns. Surfing lessons are a popular option in the bay, and there are also boat outfitters offering fishing trips, sport boating, and kayak touring on the lagoon. Baby sea turtles are released in season, and several guides offer eco tours to explore caves, hike, visit an iguana sanctuary, and more. Bike rental is widely available as is quad rental, and there are equestrian outfitters offering horseback rides on the beach.
