Modern Conveniences in the Puglian Backcountry
The latest addition to the Moroseta Homes portfolio, this newly constructed residence cuts a vivid figure around a giant, centenary oak tree, capturing the sundrenched, whitewashed essence of Puglia in a bold, new geometric form, complete with all the classic bells and whistles—a turquoise lap pool, textural earth-toned interiors, rugged wood and old stones.
Modern Conveniences in the Puglian Backcountry
Located only a stone’s throw from the charmed historical villages of Cisternino, Ostuni, and Ceglie Messapica, and 20 minutes from the beach, this contemporary country villa is tricked out and gleaming, set atop a gentle rise in the landscape, overlooking a blanket of olive, almond, and oak trees.
The latest addition to the Moroseta Homes portfolio, this newly constructed residence cuts a bold figure around a giant, centenary oak tree, capturing the sundrenched, whitewashed essence of Puglia in a bold, new geometric form. Crafted to make a contemporary statement, the villa's vivid cubic volumes gleam, reflecting the rural location, and offset by a long, infinity-edged pool, an Escher-esque exterior staircase, and a covered, fully-equipped outdoor entertaining area that’s an easy extension of the home’s wide, windowed living room and the master bedroom suite.
Moroseta’s menu of by-request hospitality experiences—cooking classes, boat charter, in-home chef-prepped meals, and wellness services—are on offer here, too. And fans of photo-worthy settings will appreciate the photogenic, rustic-chic combo of raw wood, hewn stone, sculptural cacti and gnarled ancient trees.
The master bedroom provides direct access to the ensuite bathroom, a private terrace and the pool. The second bedroom has a private terrace and access to the bathroom, while the third bedroom is connected to a spacious internal bathroom.
Around
A great base for exploring the region’s many seductions, from the storybook charms of small nearby villages to the area’s dual coastlines, with beaches skimming both the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, this rural home is a country house for a new generation—a contemporary oasis in the otherwise primitively agrarian landscape. Old World escapes are mere minutes away, Cisternino and Locortondo’s narrow, mesemerizing streets making them two nearby favorites. The mythical white villages of Ostuni and Alberobello are also nearby, offering historical architecture, flower-filled streets and piazzi, plus lively artisanal cafes, and boutiques.
Baroque-era Martino Franco presents an elegant architectural diversion from the iconic trulli-dotted hills with its Doge’s Palace, Basilica, Collegiate Church and University Palace. Seekers of unique crafts will appreciate the potters’ studios of Grottaglie and the vegetable gardens and creative kitchens that put Ceglie Messapica on the map, while more noble architecture can be experienced in lesser known Francavilla Fontana, known as the “City of the Imperials” for its 15th-century Castello degli Orsini del Balzo and its Baroque-era loggia. The well-heeled port villages of Polignano a Mare and Monopoli aren’t too far away, and the beaches along the Adriatic Sea and Ionian bay between Italy’s boot heel and toe are a 20-minute drive, offering abundant sands for splashing and sunning.
