Denia is a Mediterranean port city on Spain’s Costa Blanca between Alicante and Valencia. Its marina and 11th-century Moorish castle are its main draws, but the town also features an Archaeological and Ethnological Museum. The town was named a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy for its hundreds of restaurants, cafes, and markets lined with locally-grown oranges, lemons and grapes.

A port town that exudes pure Mediterranean charm, Denia makes a great base for sailing trips, and it's a popular gateway to the Balearic Islands, with regular departures for Ibiza and Formentera. The soft sand beach of Las Marinas stretches from Denia’s town center, and there are snorkel-worthy coves called Las Rotas along the coast just outside of town. This area is also a natural Marine Reserve for sea grass prairies. Cova Tallada is a hike- or kayak-in sea cave tucked into the coastal cliffs, with natural pools famed for swimming and snorkeling. The town features two marinas, each lined by sea walls protecting the boat slips and full of sailboats, yachts and waterfront cafes. The fisherman’s village of Baix la Mar is located between the castle and the sea, featuring vividly painted rowhomes that once housed local fishermen.

Mount Montgó rises behind the small city, and hikers can follow steep, sun-drenched trails that culminate in stunning views from the summit. Citrus groves (grapefruit, mandarin, lemon and orange) surround the city, and there are vineyards nearby offering local vintages of the Marina Alta Comarca and Alicante provinces.
