Three Architect-Built Villas with Traditional Cretan Inspiration

Traditional island architecture has been translated with modern vision and style by architects Aristomenes & George Baroudakis, creating a dynamic relationship with the natural environment. Three independent villas situated in peaceful Kontomari village, in the area of Platanias in Chania, West Crete, encapsulate the essence of traditional Cretan architecture with modern building techniques. The villas are available individually or together as a two- or three-unit complex.

Cretan Architecture for the 21st Century

Overlooking the hills, mountains and vast olive and orange groves of Crete, these three independent villas (available individually or together as a two- or three-unit complex) sit in complete privacy and tranquility, built with traditional materials that illustrate and highlight a contemporary version of authentic Cretan architecture.

Combining stone, marble, wood, glass, earth and metal, the three units are bright and open, with nature invited in. The prevailing style across all the villas is one of easy, indoor / outdoor-living, accented by hand selected furnishings exclusively designed by interior decorators.

Surrounded by stone-walled courtyards, the villas all overlook the panoramic Cretan hills, vast olive and orange groves and the white Cretan Mountains. Built transparently, each home is flooded with natural light creating a peaceful ambience within all year round.

Villa Alivia features high ceilings and large glass windows and a sun flooded lounge across its two stories. It sleeps six guests in three bedrooms with three bathrooms, a private swimming pool and lush garden. An open-plan kitchen, dining room and lounge area are connected to the rest of the villa by a beautiful, transparent corridor. There's a yacht-style deck and pool, and a stunning ground floor bath with stoic marble and stone features, and a spacious hydro massage shower. The first floor primary bedroom offers a king size bed, a bathroom with a marble paneled ensuite bath tub with a Jacuzzi, a shower, and his & hers washbasins. Plus, there's an office space in primary bedroom.

Villa Naranja offers 203 square meters with three bedrooms and baths across its two stories, ideal for six guests. WIth a private pool, open plan living area and high-tech kitchen, the villa offers great spaces for entertaining in style, using produce from the organic garden right outside. Two bedrooms with stony accents sit side by side on the ground floor, with pool, deck, and garden access, and both feature luxuriously appointed stone and marble bathrooms. A primary bedroom is a suite space, with a marble-enhanced bathroom, a spacious wardrobe and a Jacuzzi tub.

Villa Tangerine is just under 200 square meters and also two stories, with three bedrooms and baths for six guests. The villa's standout feature is its construction built around an aromatic orange grove. Dramatic views, baths crafted of locally quarried stone and marble, and king-sized beds complete the indulgent picture indoors, while an herb garden and orange grove-surrounded swimming pool shimmer outside.

Around

Situated in Kontomari village allowing complete tranquility and anonymity. The historic old port town of Chania on the northern coast with its Venetian harbor, seaside palaces and busy resorts is a twenty-minute drive. You are also within about an hour's drive to the medieval archeological heritage village of Maroulas.

The western coasts of Crete feature wild natural landscapes and two of the top ten ranked beaches in Greece: Balos and Elafonisi. A quieter less populated region, it stretches from Balos and Falasarna to Livadia, Elafonisi and the Krios peninsula in Paleohora and Kissamos to the north.
