Centrally located between NoHo and the East Village, the apartment is a five-to-10-minute walk to metro trains 6, N, R, B, D, F, and M and less than 15 minutes’ walk to the L, A, C, and E trains. New York’s East Village has long been a bohemian quarter, home to Beat poets and punk rockers, as well as artists and avant-gardists of all mediums. The neighborhood thrums with nightlife and dining options, with clubs ranging from indie-rock to blues, folk to comedy, and upscale spots with swanky cocktail menus. Old-school bars, vintage shops and casual food outlets ground the neighborhood, and the incomparable St. Mark’s Place, home of punk rock and other counterculture movements is still a vibrant spot today, if changed some by some fast-food outlets and trinket sellers.

NoHo is best known for its 19th-century architecture and its setting at the crossroads of the creative and more manicured. Trendy galleries and more upscale eateries, shops and clubs fill its streets, tucked between the Houston and East 8th, Mercer and Bowery/4th Avenue. Named for its setting “North of Houston Street”, the largely residential area used to be an industrial warehouse district. It’s now anchored by Astor Place and centered around Bond Street, and has become a haven for big-name artists, many of whom show in the former manufacturing spaces and cast-iron buildings. The neighborhood is also home to NYU, the landmark Astor Place Theatre, Colonnade Row with its Greek Revival townhomes, and Coopers Union, the prestigious art, architecture and engineering institution.
