A Serene, Art-Filled Oasis in the East Village/NoHo
Despite its dazzling, big-name art collection (with masterpieces on display by the likes of Matisse, Pierre Jeanneret, Kazunori Hamana, Lee Ufan, Bosco Sodi and Man Ray), a meditative ambiance pervades this sophisticated sanctuary on a tree-lined NYC street between NoHo and the East Village. Of note: It's available for shorter stays and photo shoots on request.
An Art-Filled East-Village-meets-NoHo Apartment
With its stunning art and design collection on permanent display, this 1800s-era brick apartment at the crossroads of NYC’s East Village and NoHo offers a rare opportunity to live among the masters.
With works by Kazunori Hamana, Pierre Jeanneret, Fabricious-Kastholm, Poul Kjerholm, Hans Wegner and Bosco Sodi joining the likes of Man Ray, Henri Matisse, and dozens of others (Lee Ufan, Don Jose Garcia Antonio, Sara Bozzini, Chioma Ebinama, Koji Enokura, Piero Golia, Minjae Kim, Eliane Radigue, Rogan Gregory…), this 950sqft retreat is surprisingly understated, creating a calm, soft grey backdrop for its one-of-a-kind art collection.
The one-bedroom retreat offers a chef’s kitchen and spa-quality bathroom with a Toto Japanese washlet and zelige tiles covering its floor to ceiling. Subzero, Wolf and Miele are the appliance brands, and housekeeping is included.
Sleek, sophisticated and serene, this elegant apartment lets you wake up to the masters and is central to all New York City has to offer.
Note: Shorter stays and photo shoots are available upon request.
Around
Centrally located between NoHo and the East Village, the apartment is a five-to-10-minute walk to metro trains 6, N, R, B, D, F, and M and less than 15 minutes’ walk to the L, A, C, and E trains. New York’s East Village has long been a bohemian quarter, home to Beat poets and punk rockers, as well as artists and avant-gardists of all mediums. The neighborhood thrums with nightlife and dining options, with clubs ranging from indie-rock to blues, folk to comedy, and upscale spots with swanky cocktail menus. Old-school bars, vintage shops and casual food outlets ground the neighborhood, and the incomparable St. Mark’s Place, home of punk rock and other counterculture movements is still a vibrant spot today, if changed some by some fast-food outlets and trinket sellers.
NoHo is best known for its 19th-century architecture and its setting at the crossroads of the creative and more manicured. Trendy galleries and more upscale eateries, shops and clubs fill its streets, tucked between the Houston and East 8th, Mercer and Bowery/4th Avenue. Named for its setting “North of Houston Street”, the largely residential area used to be an industrial warehouse district. It’s now anchored by Astor Place and centered around Bond Street, and has become a haven for big-name artists, many of whom show in the former manufacturing spaces and cast-iron buildings. The neighborhood is also home to NYU, the landmark Astor Place Theatre, Colonnade Row with its Greek Revival townhomes, and Coopers Union, the prestigious art, architecture and engineering institution.
