A Restored Trulli Complex with Sea Views
At 350 meters above the Valle d'Itria, this is not a view you expect from an inland site. On a clear day the Adriatic is visible from the terraces, a shimmer at the edge of the plateau that Mathias and Marijke discovered after a long search for their home in the sun.
The cassina a trulli typology is specific to this corner of Puglia. Clusters of conical dwellings, each roof corbelled in limestone without mortar, built from the 16th century onward as agricultural outbuildings. The Valle d'Itria landscape is dotted with them. Trullo M preserves the structure's original logic: the tight geometry, the thick walls that hold the summer heat at bay, the low thresholds.
The main building holds the generous proportions of a working cassina: a full kitchen with stone floors and natural light, a living room that opens to the terrace, and three bedrooms furnished with a mix of Italian and Scandinavian vintage. Walls are whitewashed throughout. Floors are original terracotta. The separate lamia — a lower, barrel-vaulted building at the pool — functions as a fourth bedroom suite. Its self-contained layout makes it naturally suited to a second couple or adults seeking a degree of separation from the main house.
The garden is made up of over 300 square meters of terraces, arranged around the infinity pool at the hill's crest. The pool is 3.3 meters wide and 12 meters long, the water spilling toward the valley view. On the main terrace, the outdoor kitchen is fully fitted: a teppanyaki plate, gas pit, fridge, and both hot and cold water. The 5,000-square-meter plot includes an olive grove, a swing beneath the trees, and a small playground tucked into the orchard. The elevation brings a reliable breeze through July and August.
Layout
This vacation home for rent in Fasano, Puglia sleeps up to eight guests. It is made up of the main cassina a trulli building (which holds three bedrooms, a living room, a full kitchen, and two and a half bathrooms), plus a separate lamia at the pool with one bedroom and en-suite bathroom. The two buildings share the terrace and pool and are best understood as a single compound rather than separate units. The children's bedroom in the main house is a natural separation from the adults' quarters.
