A Stony, Santanyi Outpost Five Minutes from the Beach
A refurbished, rural stone house and casita only three minutes from the town of Santanyi and five minutes from some of Mallorca’s most stunning beaches, this two-level retreat exudes rustic island elegance. With exposed stone everywhere, accented by strong timbers and traditional tile floors, the finca is filled with preowned architectural pieces from stone sinks to floor tiles, complemented by rustic-styled contemporary furnishings such as the spiral staircase in the soaring living room, a sleek kitchen and a stylishly appointed pool terrace.
Bedrooms are all unique, with wood partitions in one and a split-level sleep platform defining another, as well as a primary bedroom with an ensuite bath and balcony. The two additional rooms share a bath that seems carved in cool stone and offers an outdoor shower. A separate cottage for two has its own private outdoor space, and the poolscape includes an alfresco dining area, yoga deck, two grills, and a playground for the kids.
Around
The property offers easy access to the town of Santanyi with its restaurants, cafes and groceries, in addition to its beautiful outdoor farmers’ market held twice a week in a pretty village square. Known as a food lovers’ favorite on the island, Santanyi showcases golden blonde stone and is set inland from the beautiful, turquoise waters of the cove lined coast. Fortifications reveal the town’s history—attempts to protect residents from pillaging pirates and Moorish invaders. Boat excursions depart Santanyi for Cabrera Nature Park, a small island surrounded by crystalline waters that’s popular with divers.
Some of Mallorca’s prettiest beaches are within five to 10 minutes’ drive, including Cala Santanyi, Playa S’Amador, Cala des Moro, and Cala S’Alumnia. The traditional rural town of Campos (10 minutes’ drive) is a historically significant town with Roman remains and a chapel dating from 1248 plus an artisanal dairy industry that produces a local cheese called Piris that are matured in a paprika-spiked brine for months. About 20 minutes from the property is the vibrant, palm-dotted yacht port of Cala d’Or, with its leafy coves, sentinel medieval castle and nearby Mondragó Natural Park, famed for its aquatic birdlife including ospreys. Also about 20 minutes away is the resort town of Portocolom, a traditional fishing village in a sheltered bay with its colorful, fishing-boat-lined quay, ancient burial ground or prehistoric naveta, and its blue flag beaches.
