Centuries’ Old Alpine Chalet for Adventure Seekers
This spacious former barn extends over a vast hay storage and stables, featuring oversized windows offering views of the dramatically wild Austrian Alps. A 250-year-old farmhouse transformed, the chalet is heavy on ancient, weathered timber, preserved brickwork and exposed earthen construction, updated by new wood wall paneling.
Great for a crowd, this massive barn-turned-chalet in a small Alpine village stands as a storybook getaway for adventuring into the green peaks of Tyroler Lech Nature Park. The former hay barn upstairs has been transformed into an independent apartment for eight, flooded with natural light from new, oversized windows. Below, a wood-clad modern cottage for four is contained within massive timbers and exposed original stonework. Ideal for Alpinists, the chalet is set in a year-round mountain playground.
Please be aware that this is an old farmhouse with two separate apartments. Noises may be audible.
AROUND
Situated in a small village surrounded by Alpine scenery and stunning mountain lakes, the centuries’ old home offers epic adventure opportunities. The chalet is set in the Tyrolean Lech Nature Park, the last wild river landscape of the Northern Alps. A region of vast alluvial forests, clear, spring-fed lakes and the Allgaü and Lechtal mountain ranges, the park is home to meandering adventure trails, view platforms and birdwatching huts. Right out of the home’s front door, hikers will be challenged by imposing peaks rising from gentler mountain meadows and the shores of crystalline mountain lakes. Cyclists can take the family-friendly path from Reutte to Steeg, as well as mountain biking trails of varying difficulty. Rock climbing routes from the beginner level to more technical climbs can be found throughout the Lechtal, and gorge hiking or “canyoning” with guides and protective gear is another popular mountain sport. Water activities are abundant, too, with kayaking and canoeing on lakes and whitewater rafting rivers all on offer. Ski Arlberg is nearby for winter sports enthusiasts, with cross country and ski touring available in the Nature Park. The park offers 34 marked winter hiking routes and snowshoeing as well as tobogganing runs, including some lit for night adventures with the family!
