Relax, Rekindle, Breathe: Island Time
Designed to complement the simple beauty of its Greek island location, this pair of modern villas coexists harmoniously with the rugged turf, vivid sun, and the stark blue Aegean on the horizon. Two side-by-side homes provide easy shelter from the vibrant Cycladic sunshine, offering cool white, clean-lined interiors and casual, contrasting furnishings in inky black and cool greys.
Created for unwinding after days spent discovering all that vibrant Naxos has to offer, these modern villas for rent in Greece have sunrises and sunsets covered from their double, east- and west-facing verandas. Both villas are unfussy and alfresco-focused, aligned with the easygoing pace of island living. The properties come with a handpicked list of local kite- and windsurfing guides, private boat charter recommendations for watersports (snorkeling, swimming) or touring, plus workshops and tastings. Additional onsite perks include in-home access to art, yoga, and health and wellness services, massage, a selected wine list, and a private chef by appointment.
AROUND
The largest of the vibrant Cycladic islands, Naxos is known for its energetic, sporty atmosphere. Windsurfers come to the island for its wide variety of surfing disciplines (slalom, wave, freestyle, and freeride). Naxos’ St. George Lagoon offers shallow, calm waters for beginners, and the Mikri Vigla beach has become an international destination for passionate wind- and kitesurfing enthusiasts. Shipwrecks, caves and sunken aircraft make Naxos’ coastline a great spot for scuba diving, and horseback riding outfitters offer beach rides on many of the island’s beaches, too. Landlocked activities include cycling, a network of trekking/hiking trails, and sightseeing to both natural wonders (Mount Zas and its Cave, Routsouna Waterfall, Alyko Juniper forest) and cultural sites (ancient marble quarries, the sanctuary of Apollo and Demeter, the Kouroi Statues, and Chimarros Tower).
Dozens of particularly picturesque villages dot the island, great for daytripping by car inland and around the coastal routes. Favorite villages include the Jesuit Summer Resort at Kalamitsia, ancient Melanes, the elegant Venetian town of Apiranthos at the foot of Mt. Fanari, and lush, rural Chalki. Naxos’ old town (the Chora) is about 15 kilometers away and famed for its whitewashed, stairstepping homes, narrow alleys and arching passages, and its medieval citadel. Shops, restaurants, boutiques and tavernas pulse with action both day and night, and the rich island is home to a wealth of great food and beverage traditions, from wine making to olive oil pressing, cheesemaking and distilling to ranching cattle and herding goats inland and, of course, fishing all around the fertile coast.
