A 19th Century Sicilian Villa Steeped in History

Regal and enchanting, this historic villa was discovered by the owners who immediately fell in love and decided to devote themselves to its careful and thoughtful restoration. Spectacularly situated along the slopes of Mount Etna, 500 meters above sea level, this 40-acre organic farm once belonged to the monks of St. Anna and is steeped in history.

The dusky pink 19th-century villa is now an elegant and eco-friendly boutique hotel that blends traditional Sicilian architecture with contemporary art along with environmental consciousness. Renovated applying the principles of bio-architecture and ecological design, over 50% of its energy comes from renewable sources.

Set in 40 acres of olive groves, citrus trees, and vineyards, this boutique country hotel grows its own organic fruit, vegetables, and herbs, which are then prepared for guests in the style of authentic Sicilian cuisine.

The striking decor includes reclaimed wood furnishings, an antique Palmento wine press, and Phillipe Starck furnishings set against black lava walls that echo the dramatic surroundings. An eclectic fusion of old and new, the interiors emphasize the original character while making a stunningly modern statement. 

Featuring a diverse collection of twenty guest rooms in and around the villa, each with a distinct personality, all incorporate the villa’s original features such as wood-beamed ceilings and exposed stone walls. The baths have been stylishly updated with refreshing contemporary touches and raw elemental features. (The free-standing guest room tub is a luxurious delight.) Each has a balcony or patio with stunning views of the sea, Mount Etna, and the gardens.

Nestled among the citrus trees is a beautiful and serene infinity pool, with amazing views of the glittering Mediterranean in the distance. From dawn until dusk, the land, sea, and sky create a full palette of colors while Mount Etna slumbers in the distance.

Historic Boutique Hideaway is a 20-minute drive from the nearest beach and the town of Acireale, 35 km from Taormina, and 20 km to Mt. Etna. Set at the base of Mt. Etna, the ancient port town of Catania is the island’s second-largest city. Dominated by the beautiful Piazza Duomo, the plaza is the central hub and heart of this UNESCO listed town, with an abundance of cafes, outdoor markets, and the rowdy spectacle of the weekly La Pescheria fish market.

The largest active volcano in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage site, Mt. Etna is a powerful presence, and the chance to go up 3000m is an unforgettable sensation. It's monitored constantly and many parts are safe to explore through the park service guides and great trails. It's a beautiful sometimes snow-covered, sometimes green parkland and is a great adventure. 

To the south, Siracusa is a beautiful and significant archaeological area with another ancient Greek amphitheater, the Orecchio di Dionisio Cave, Apollos Temple and the Teatro Romana ruins. Be sure not to miss the Ortigia neighborhood. A UNESCO World Heritage site, nearby Noto is home to some of the most spectacular and elegant Baroque sites in the world. 

The magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site of Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina is one of the Roman wonders of the world. The famous Mosaics are some of the finest examples of the art form and a rare treasure not to be missed. The entire region is designated an archeological national park and is full of discovery.
