The owners say that the view is the first wow factor of Hummingbird Hill. And the Silver Lake Reservoir glimpses – from the hills to the snow-capped mountains in the winter – are quite profound. But let’s back up to curvy facade and the smoked glass front door, and fully appreciate this home as the architectural nesting doll that it is, opening up into cool new details with every step.

We love the details here, from the burl wood dining table and the cantilever chairs to the fluted fireplace and persimmon-red velvet sofa. And that horseshoe-shaped dining nook…

After a day of working remotely or exploring Los Angeles, we’d suggest you make a gin seltzer in the moody wet bar (with instant cold and seltzer water on tap) while listening to a classic rock record on the turntable (the vinyl collection is 300+ deep).

Garnish it with a lime wedge from one of the fruit trees outside. And while you’re out there, succumb to the gasp of those gorgeous views.

This vacation rental in Los Angeles has one ensuite queen bedroom for adult guests, and two bedrooms for kids (one a twin trundle, one a twin bunk) decorated as children's rooms, along with 1.5 bathrooms.

The dwelling has two wood-burning fireplaces and a fully equipped chef’s kitchen with a five-burner cooktop, dual convection oven and steam oven, dishwasher, large refrigerator and all of the tools needed to make wonderful meals out of California's famous produce. 

Use your phone to Airplay throughout the sound system that runs throughout the house, including the backyard. Watch movies on the 55” flat screen television above the fireplace in the family room. The home is equipped with fast internet and WiFi, both indoors and out.

For al fresco family dinners in the year-round sun, there is a gas barbecue grill and dining table that seats eight. For chillier evenings, we recommend gathering around the gas fire pit. Any day is ideal for swaying in the hammock with a good book.

Guest suite

Please note: There is a an attached guest suite that may be occupied at the time of your stay. The guest suite can be made available for an additional fee, and the door that connects the two spaces can be unlocked to join them. The guest suite sleeps two in a queen bed and upon request, there is a Pack & Play crib. It is on the first floor of the entire home, with its own entrance. You’ll find a kitchenette and a table for three in the main area that has a large wooden sliding door.

On the other side of the door is the guest suite's bedroom, where you can curl up on the half-circle day bed built into a wraparound bay window. The bathroom is finished in Moroccan limestone and features a large shower enclosed in glass. (Note: there is no tub). The heat and AC are controlled by a Nest thermostat, and there are two Sonos One speakers to Airplay your music to.

Located in the heart of Silver Lake just above the reservoir, the house is within minutes of great shops and delicious local eateries and a short drive to downtown Los Angeles, Echo Park, and Hollywood. Eclectic, unique and fast becoming the hippest part of LA, the area is filled with vibrant culture. This house affords a great spot and jumping off point for such iconic sites as Griffith Park and the Observatory, The Greek Theater, Sunset Blvd, and all of the unique hot spots and recreation in and around LA. From the sprawling city limits and the coast, to the mountains and beyond, it’s a great central location to explore this vast metropolis.
