Trastevere Theater Grandly Reinvented
Top billing goes to this former theater in Trastevere. Dramatic new staging has transformed the space entirely, turning venue into home—a breathtaking contemporary residence that’s still every bit a showplace.
This dramatic modern residence in the heart of Rome’s Trastevere neighborhood showcases the high ceilings of its theatrical origins and huge banks of windows that flood it with natural light. Transformed from performance stage into a stunningly spacious contemporary home, the sleek redesign is an ovation-worthy renovation featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, soaring steel girders, exposed brick walls and theatrical paint and draperies. There’s a roof deck lounge and private spa adding to the grand setting. The home also puts contemporary art and Oriental-styled works in the spotlight, co-starring alongside the luxurious designer furnishings in the combined living, kitchen and dining areas. All the home’s rooms are creatively staged in the vast space, with its loft-like ambiance. It’s a stunningly spacious spot, particularly for a downtown Roman destination.
AROUND
Located at the heart of Rome’s Trastevere quarter, within steps of exclusive dining, shopping and entertainment, this vacation home rental in Rome is exceptional for its size and location. A few minutes’ walk will take you to the Campo de’ Fiori, the Piazza Navona and Piazza Farnese, as well as San Pietro. The Trastevere neighborhood was once upon a time a working-class zone, a centuries-old quarter that has been updated by youth and activity. Much of the neighborhood is pedestrian, and it’s located across the Tiber River from Rome’s tourist center, with its narrow cobbled streets, bustling fountains and small, café-lined squares. Medieval houses make Trastevere extra photogenic by day, but the neighborhood really comes alive at night with the opening of its streetfront trattoria, pizzerias, cafes, and bars. A weekly flea market fills the Porta Portese each Sunday morning, when mass is also given inside the neighborhood’s mosaic-covered, medieval Basilica Santa Maria. Trek up top of Trastevere’s Colle di Gianicolo for a well-worth-the-effort view of downtown Rome. Time your trek to arrive at noon, when a cannon is fired daily in honor of freedom fighter Guiseppe Garibaldi, whose horseback likeness is located on a hilltop statue at the top of the park.
