In a Historic Crete Port Town, a Home as Vibrant as a Kirchner Painting

Nestled in the historic heart of Chania Old Town, we love this cheap and cheerful experience. A brand-new, three-level holiday home in Greece, it is spacious, cozy, and popping with electric colors that echo the Kirchner print in the living room. Its lemon and melon hues contrast beautifully with the natural architectural materials like wood, metal, glass and stone mixed with precious Greek marbles.

The Journey Design Home can accommodate up to three adults, and its three floors connected by a spiral staircase encompass a unique master bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, two bathrooms that maximize the space. Beautifully arched doorways and large windows let in the light, or you can walk out onto the spacious balcony and take in the city view. A sunken bathtub on the ground floor is a minimalist work of art (and highly photogenic).

This home is an ideal home base for exploring Chania Old Town and the Venetian harbor, while the city lights up around you with its restaurants, shopping boutiques and bars. You are also walking distance to a supermarket, public market, the central bus station and parking.

OLD TOWN AND THE AKROTIRI PENINSULA

The historic old port town of Chania lies along the northern coast with its Venetian harbor, seaside palaces and busy resorts. A twenty-minute walk will take you to the long, sandy beach of Nea Chora which has lifeguards, cocktail bars and hotels.

Located along the southeastern coast of the Akrotiri Peninsula thirty minutes from Chania, the picturesque Souda Bay and Marathi face south with lovely views of Drapanos Cape and the White Mountains. Its two beautiful Blue Flag beaches are separated by a small pier and harbor for fishing boats and ferries and there are great seaside restaurants and cafes to make a day of it.

Just offshore is the small island of Paleosouda, which can be reached only by boat or a short swim. A charming uninhabited wooded isle, its steep western coast is a popular diving spot. The road north leads to some interesting Roman ruins with traces of ancient baths and structures.

You are within about an hour’s drive to the medieval archeological heritage village of Maroulas situated just a few miles from the Venetian harbor town of Rethymno along the northern coast. The western coast features wild natural landscapes and two of the top ten ranked beaches in Greece: Balos and Elafonisi. A quieter less populated region, it stretches from Balos and Falasarna to Livadia, Elafonisi and the Krios peninsula in Paleohora and Kissamos to the north and follows along the seaside route of the European E4 hiking path.
