Treading lightly, adapting to the environment, and creating something special to share with others is an art form, and this luxury boutique hotel in Brazil beckons those who crave an indulgent, all-natural experience intertwined with modern luxuries and stunning natural landscapes.

Neighboring the coastal dunes of northeastern Maranhao, this luxury boutique hotel in Brazil is far off the beaten path. Built on a hilltop overlooking the sea and jungle, its seven bungalows were designed by architect Yorick Piette to be individual capsules of activity, sheltered from each other by the landscape.

Constructed of assorted palm trees (buriti, carnaúba, açaí, coconut), handmade tiles, local hardwoods (tatajuba, canela de velho, pau d’arco) and white walls, each bungalow has a bright and refined atmosphere that reconnects guests with nature, eliminating the boundaries between inside and out.

Working with local craftsmen, the hotel’s designer, head chef, and carpenter Mark Dixon has mixed paintings, sculptures, furniture, and indigenous handcrafts and textiles to create an authentic and relaxed atmosphere. Each bungalow can accommodate up to four guests and all are self-contained.

The common area is designed as a place to socialize and come together with a restaurant dedicated to serving fresh, local cuisine sourced from the property’s organic gardens.

The northeastern state of Maranhao is one of Brazil's most remote and strikingly wild regions, with dense Amazonian rainforests and a vast network of lagoons and dunes that create lunar-like landscapes at Lençóis Maranhenses National Park along the Atlantic. The capital city and world heritage designated site of São Luís is a charming destination of cobbled stone streets and pastel colored colonial mansions with a unique mix of museums, galleries and the festive historic district known as the Reviver.

The off-the-radar fishing village of Atins offers laid back beachside bars and restaurants for a relaxing respite after a day of exploration.
