The House with the Blue Shutters

This traditional cottage was once the pharmacy for the village of St Martin de Gurson, but it has been converted into a lovely guest house suitable for one or two families. We love the white stone facade and beautiful blue Provencal shutters, as well as the spacious interiors, outdoor living room, and large swimming pool.

The lovely old cottage is a great combination of historical charm and modern convenience. On the outside, its whitewashed stone with old blue shutters are a beautiful example of the traditional architecture of the region. Inside, old floors, stone walls, and wooden/tiled floors have been preserved, but the cottage has been given a modern makeover, with a fully-equipped kitchen and amenities.

It's also deceptively large, with plenty of space for two families to share. Inside there are four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a library, a billiard room, a lounge with fireplace and an open-plan kitchen. From this, guests can walk out through patio doors onto a terrace, where an open barn encloses an outdoor living and dining area with loads of room for lounging.

A large heated swimming pool is a great bonus feature, as is the spacious deck, which boasts an abundance of sun loungers and a jacuzzi. There is also an enclosed garden, and little nooks with garden furniture.

The kitchen comes fully equipped with a large stove, a washing machine and a dishwasher. There is a barbecue in the garden.

The house is very child friendly, with cots, high chairs, and baby baths available. There are toys for almost all ages from plush animals to puzzles, board games, tricycles and bicycles.

AROUND

Saint Martin de Gurson is a small village on the border of the Dordogne with 500 inhabitants. Located at the intersection of the departments of Gironde, Lot et Garonne and Charente, it's perfectly located to visit many of the local attractions. 

The village itself, thought tiny, has plenty of amenities with walking distance - such as tennis and petanque courts, a baker, pub-restaurants and 'Chez Josiane' the local convenience store (where you can buy everything from hen food to postcards). The medieval church is worth visiting. 

Activities include swimming in Lac de Gurson, as well as kayaking on the L'Isle and the Dordogne, walking and cycling. Bikes are available for 5 euros/day. There is a golf course 30 minutes away at Château des Vigiers and Fun Golf 10km away.

And also only 30 minutes away are St Emilion and Pomerol, exclusive districts of the vast Bordeaux vineyards and home to some of the finest wines in the world. Tours can be organized on request.
