Architect Maria Giuseppina Grasso Cannizzo Organizes Structure, Light & Space That Slides

Light and almost relentlessly simple in vision, space and character, this home harmonizes gently and seamlessly into the Sicilian countryside. There's an innate intelligence and appreciation in how architect Maria Giuseppina Grasso Cannizzo has organized the light, structure and space to highlight a completely effortless way of natural, modern living. Designed as two separate structures and residences, the guest unit slides (on tracks!) to close the structure completely or open to separate and reveal a spacious terrace with views to the sea.

With walls of windows and whitewashed interiors, this cantilevered structure is full of natural light and minimal embellishment which allows for the countryside to become an integral part of the house.

Each of the three airy, bright bedrooms is spare in execution and style providing peaceful places to dream. The home sleeps up to six guests in total and can be situated for couples or singles.

The glossy concrete and polished wood floors contrast with the minimal vintage furnishings and contemporary custom made pieces for an unadulterated appreciation of the architect's vision.

Situated directly adjacent to the Vendicari land reserve, there are unobstructed views from every angle of fields of olive, almond and citrus orchards, wild land, and the Mediterranean Sea for a truly private escape.

A spectacular swimming pool was recently built in a crag above the house, overlooking the extraordinary landscape, towards the sea of Vendicari. The pool, also designed by Maria Giuseppina Grasso Cannizzo, is 15 meters long and 2.50 meters wide. A solarium next to the pool is lined with ancient local stones and equipped with comfortable sun loungers and an adjacent shower.

The Guestbook
