Architect Maria Giuseppina Grasso Cannizzo Organizes Structure, Light & Space That Slides
Light and almost relentlessly simple in vision, space and character, this home harmonizes gently and seamlessly into the Sicilian countryside. There's an innate intelligence and appreciation in how architect Maria Giuseppina Grasso Cannizzo has organized the light, structure and space to highlight a completely effortless way of natural, modern living. Designed as two separate structures and residences, the guest unit slides (on tracks!) to close the structure completely or open to separate and reveal a spacious terrace with views to the sea.

With walls of windows and whitewashed interiors, this cantilevered structure is full of natural light and minimal embellishment which allows for the countryside to become an integral part of the house.
Each of the three airy, bright bedrooms is spare in execution and style providing peaceful places to dream. The home sleeps up to six guests in total and can be situated for couples or singles.
The glossy concrete and polished wood floors contrast with the minimal vintage furnishings and contemporary custom made pieces for an unadulterated appreciation of the architect's vision.
Situated directly adjacent to the Vendicari land reserve, there are unobstructed views from every angle of fields of olive, almond and citrus orchards, wild land, and the Mediterranean Sea for a truly private escape.
A spectacular swimming pool was recently built in a crag above the house, overlooking the extraordinary landscape, towards the sea of Vendicari. The pool, also designed by Maria Giuseppina Grasso Cannizzo, is 15 meters long and 2.50 meters wide. A solarium next to the pool is lined with ancient local stones and equipped with comfortable sun loungers and an adjacent shower.

Slowly the house envelops you in its atmosphere and you feel more and more wrapped up in the Sicilian, Mediterranean and strong landscape. I don't know what the architect had in mind, but the house restores freedom and strength.
A stunner! Mounted high above with a view of the gorgeous Sicilian Vendicari natural reserve and a super blue strip of the sea on the horizon. Serenity! We fell in love not wanting to leave, ever. The simple, graceful and amazing architecture of the house complements the untouched, spectacular nature that surrounds it. Star gazing at night on the terrace with a glass of Sicilian wine, in the morning up early not to miss the sun rising while enjoying our coffee. The interior of La Melagrana has a very personal vibe with elegant, tasteful vintage furniture and (just a few) decorative objects . Besides beautiful beaches and cities we visited some great restaurants in the neighborhood. Battimandorlo was our favorite. In short: Our perfect holiday enriched with culture, culinary delights, breathtaking nature, amazing architecture and lovely locals!
The devil is in the details! A phenomenal holiday home to experience the original Sicily and at the same time to live in an extraordinary way - essential and yet ingenious. From the terrace and from the living and sleeping area you can enjoy the wide view over the Riserva di Vendicari to the sea. The equipment leaves out the superfluous and yet offers everything you need. The Sea View Villa is refined architecture surrounded by a quiet, wild landscape and the wonderful light of Sicily. Ci rivediamo!
We spent a wonderful week in Sea View Villa savouring the architecture and the place. It is remote, quiet and supremely peaceful, but also only a few minutes drive from the sea or the surrounding towns. Built in a sensitive yet radical way to respond to the climate and context, the house hovers over the landscape commanding distant views to the sea, providing a sense of escape and wonder.
the Sea View Villa is a place of sensuality and tranquility in the middle of nature. It combines privacy, plays of light on the horizon and design. Coffee in the morning sun is addictive and is accompanied by the chirping of birds. The simple design impresses with intuitive functionality and the embedding in nature creates warmth and comfort. In short, the villa is a masterpiece.
Sea View Villa is in and of itself a piece of architectural art in the midst of a beautiful, secluded landscape. We enjoyed our stay there very much. The open views onto the landscape, the tranquility and piece - and last but not least the many architectural details are exceptional. We look forward to visiting again. Greetings from Berlin.
