A Mid-Century Corsican Hotel Restored

Discovered by chance on a return trip in 2011, this residence in Corsica inspired its new owner to switch gears into island life after over a decade in Paris. The site of a hotel built in 1960, the property was in need of a bit of a lift. Seeing the potential in an unpolished gem, the owner, who is Corsican, enlisted friends and family whose expertise in hospitality, design and architecture brought the property back to life with a renewed sense of purpose. Today, there are 12 apartments available for rent, and you can choose between garden and valley views.

Set among the lush greenery and ancient oaks of the western coast of the island, L'Aiglon is a few minutes' walk from the Gulf of Porto and Bussaglia beach, but surrounded by wilderness. Straightforward and uncomplicated, the property was restored and designed to highlight the interplay of the old and new, with subtle modern comforts embedded within the bones of the vintage structures, and raw natural accents that keep it simple.

The property is comprised of two separate buildings, the Bâtisse de Pierres Roses and the Bâtisse du Cason, each offering six suites. Both buildings' apartments share Mediterranean styling and were renovated between 2018 and 2020, with refined natural furnishings that inspire slow living and easy warmth.

La Bâtisse de Pierres Roses Each of this building's six apartments is designed for two guests, with separate ensuite queen bedrooms (equipped with showers), a living/dining area and fully equipped kitchen. Two of the apartments offer private terraces, and three have a balcony. The apartments range in size from 25- to 45-square meters.

La Bâtisse du Cason Each of these six 38sqm apartments is designed for two guests, with an independent bedroom area (without a door), a queen-sized bed, a living room and fully equipped galley kitchen/dining area, plus a shaded, furnished valley view terrace.

The terrace and gardens are accessible for all guests as is the swimming pool that stretches out to the views. There is also a communal grand terrace and reception hall accessible to all guests.

Around

The western Corsican coastline offers some of most beautiful scenery on the island, with the Gulf of Porto and its small sandy beaches, peaceful sheltered coves and dramatic rock formations just a few minutes walk. One of the most scenic routes on the island, the road winds through several natural wonders.

The famous Calanques de Piana are lined with incredible pinkish granite walls above the sea with one of the best ways to explore being by boat, where you'll get an amazing perspective on these ancient monolithic formations.

Twenty minutes south is Gorges de Spelunca, a scenic river valley that snakes through the mountains with amazing hiking trails and scenic natural beauty to explore.

Forty minutes north is the Scandola Nature Reserve. A UNESCO Heritage site, it includes thousands of square acres of protected and unspoiled habitat of both land and sea. Unreachable by car and somewhat impassable on foot, the best way to appreciate its beauty is from a boat.
