Experience the Creative Vision of Artist Bosco Sodi
These three beach houses near Puerto Escondido on the Pacific coast of southern Mexico were designed by artist Bosco Sodi and Samantha Redfern, and decorated by Década Muebles. Rented together or separately, they offer an opportunity to explore the creative vision of Fundación Casa Wabi, a world-famous cultural community that was founded by Sodi in 2014.
Among a handful of unique structures on this stretch of coastline, these villas for rent in Mexico were conceived as connecting guests to nature in every element of their design, and they are thoughtfully secluded within a patch of lush wildlife, creating immersive hideaways. The natural setting between the Sierra Madre Mountains and the nearby ocean, with the ever-present sound of crashing waves, invites gentle contemplation and relaxation.
Facing the Sierra Madre Mountains, with the sound and scent of the Pacific wafting through, this compound is designed for large groups to enjoy the unique beauty of Oaxaca and neighboring Puerto Escondido. Composed of all natural materials, each home is made up of a massive, open-air main palapa and living space with a soaring thatched roof and dining area. The fully-equipped kitchen and bar is tended to by an in-house cook, with additional services available on request. Cool off privately in the pool or take a walk down the path to the shore to disconnect and recharge.
These homes come to us from Fundación Casa Wabi, created in 2014 by Mexican artist Bosco Sodi. The concept behind all that the foundation does comes from the Japanese idea of wabi-sabi, the acceptance of transcience and imperfection. Casa Wabi, their flagship residence, was designed by Pritzker-winning Tadao Ando and a collective of renowned architects as a space for creative interaction and inspiration, where residents and local communities come together.
Las Marianas is a chance to experience this philosophy first-hand, in homes designed by Sodi and his family. Rent one, sleeping 12 to 14 each, or rent all three, for a total of 40 guests.
We invite you to explore all homes and read about Fundación Casa Wabi in our magazine section here.
Additional features
Each villa includes housekeeping and a two private cooks (cost of meals not included), kitchen and bath essentials. These villas for rent in Mexico have wifi throughout but no media/TV.
Around
Located along a remote stretch of Pacific coast, the port town of Puerto Escondido lies at the end of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range just over 100 miles from the inland capital of Oaxaca. Arranged around a picturesque bay dotted with gigantic rock formations, the area is divided between Bacocho Beach on the north end, the Playa Principal resort area in the middle, and the famous surfing beach of Zicatela on the south end. Considered one of the top 10 surfing destinations in the world, with its enormous waves and numerous surfing competitions, Puerto Escondido also comes to life at night, with parties until dawn.
Be sure to visit the wildlife and mangrove forests of Laguna de Manialtepec, just 20 minutes from the house, and the ecological reserve and turtle sanctuaries of Ventanilla. Watch for the bio-luminescent tides at night, where you can swim in the sparkling waters.
