A Country Home in Provence
Bright and serene, this is a picture-perfect country house in Provence but with a touch of cool urban sophistication. Keeping what's great about the historic structure, it adds a playful family-friendly vibe and fresh style.
Situated on over two and a half acres with hilltop views over the medieval town of Vaison-la-Romaine and Mont Ventoux, this 18th-century home in the heart of “Provence des Papes” has been extensively renovated to include refined comforts while keeping traces of the past. Using a mix of reclaimed materials and a modern expansion of space and light, the home is now a contemporary haven with a stylish mix of designer furnishings, and vintage finds combining tradition and polished sophistication.

The main house sleeps six and features a large entrance and cloakroom with a guest WC on the ground floor. On the first floor, the en-suite master bedroom features a king-size bed with shower room and limestone-topped double vanity and WC. The en-suite double bedroom features a queen-size bed with a turquoise mosaic tiled bathroom and teak decking floor with a separate WC.
On the second floor is the twin bedroom (2 x 90 cm wide beds) with a turquoise bathroom and teak decking floor with WC. The separate two-bedroom guest suite with antique terracotta tiling sleeps four, both accessed from the outside and linked through a double set of doors for privacy. Featuring an en-suite twin bedroom (2 x 90 cm wide beds) and bathroom with an old fashion clawfoot bath tub and WC and an en-suite double bedroom (queen size) with shower room (shower head on stuccoed background shown) and WC. With a total of five bedrooms in all, the property sleeps up to 10 guests and features numerous sitting, dining and lounging spots to allow for entertaining and get-togethers as well as privacy.
The fully-equipped gourmet kitchen has eat in dining for 10 and opens out to the expansive living and more formal dining area that includes a fireside lounge and soaring loft space. There’s a nicely equipped office as well as a home theater/TV room separate from the rest of the house.
Partly garden, partly ancient oak tree forest, the grounds are all about play time. You can swim and lounge around the pool, play Petanque on the floodlit court, meditate in the teepees or hit the gym. Nestled into the native landscape of wild thyme, rosemary and orchards, there are several day beds and loungers scattered around the property in shaded areas as well as al fresco dining for 10 and a summer kitchen, all with lovely landmark views. The owners have designed the home to be eco-friendly and use best practices for low environmental impact.
AROUND
Minutes to the center of Vaison-la-Romaine which dates back to Roman times, this little town is in its own right a gastronomic centre. Charming and historic, it epitomizes Provence's lifestyle and has the oldest market in the area.
