Morningside, a Reimagined Shaker Farmhouse in the Berkshires
Originally built by the Shakers in the early 1800s, this seven-bedroom Shaker farmhouse was transformed by designer Jess Cooney and featured in Berkshire Magazine in 2025. Cooney reimagined every interior space while keeping the home's bones intact. Seven bedrooms have been finished to a high standard, and the living and dining spaces are proportioned for a large group, with a full kitchen that's great for entertaining.
Morningside sits at the top of a private 122-acre hill in Tyringham, a valley town at the quieter end of the Berkshires, with long views over the hills in every direction. A wildflower meadow sits closest to the house, with mowed paths cutting through toward the tree line. There's a swimming pond further out, and a treehouse at the edge of the woods for whoever gets there first. The hilltop position means the views of the valley and rolling hills are unobstructed.
What we love
This home on the edge of a meadow in the Berkshires has a warm and genuinely inviting feel that's perfect for morning coffee on the porch overlooking the meadow, cozy evenings by the fireplace, and gathering around the farmhouse kitchen with friends and family. It's an all-season destination. In summer, the pool and patio take over completely. In winter, the fire pit, the sledding, and the nearby ski slopes give it a completely different feel.
