Cabins among the Moselle Vineyards
These eco-chalets in the Moselle Valley are architect designed but family operated – making them a joy to inhabit. They're also located in one of the most famous wine regions of Germany, and have large terraces to unwind on with a bottle of local wine and a perfect sunset.
The property is made up of three cabins side by side, and each is built with attention to architectural detail and a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. The primary material that makes up the structures – wood – was chosen because it is renewable but also sensual and warm. No artificial paints or varnishes have been used, even on the outside of the cabins, allowing the thick spruce harvested from local forests to age gracefully over time.
With their expansive view and secluded location, these cabin rentals in Germany are great for holiday getaways but also perfect for workations.
There are three cabins immediately adjacent to each other than can be rented individually or together, for up to 10 guests. Perfect for an extended family holiday.
Chalet Mosel, on the right, sleeps two to four, and features a huge bench window that faces the Moselle. It's the perfect spot in which to read or chat after dinner. When opened, the sliding doors connect the living room and dining area with the large terrace, and bring the outside world in.
Chalet Mitte, in the middle, sleeps two guests. It has its own wellness area, with a sauna, infrared cabin and wooden terrace.
Chalet Berg, on the left, is built for up to four guests, and comes with the largest outdoor area of the three cabins and an extra parking lot, which can be reached via large sliding doors.
Additional features
Underfloor heating is provided by a heat pump, which is powered by the cabins' solar system, and the cabins meet the highest thermal insulation standards. There are charging stations for e-bikes and e-cars. Children under the age of 12 years are not permitted at the cabins, which are better suited to adult guests. Starting in spring of 2023, a small boat is available for guest use (at additional cost, no licence required).
A wide variety of experiences are available, including exploring the Moselle by boat or canoe, yoga classes, a tandem paragliding flight, a visit to the Geierlay Suspension Bridge (not for the faint-hearted), bike rentals, grape harvesting, wine tasting, restaurant visits, and day spas. Services available include a filled fridge on arrival, intermediate cleaning for long stays, a Spotify playlist, and wine packages. There is a private boat available for guest use at additional cost (no licence required), and a private chef can be booked.
Around
These cabin rentals in Germany are nestled among the vineyards of the Moselle Valley, near the village of Pommern. Not to be confused with the Baltic region of Pommern or Pommerania, it is one of the oldest wine villages on the Moselle, having been settled by the Celts more than 2,000 years ago. It was the Romans who set it on its viticultural journey, and the name Pommern actually means "fruit garden."
The owners of the cabins tell us there are six words you need to know when you visit Pommern: wine, sun, water, hiking, cycling and culture. It's very small (with only 400 residents) and is filled with lovely half-timbered houses. Don't miss the chance to visit the local growers and taste their award-winning wines. Another local destination, the Vallendar distillery, is renowned for its hazelnut schnapps, and there's a little patisserie that comes highly recommended. There are supermarkets in Treis-Karden, which is only 3km away.
Other activities include touring the local castles, or hiking the famous Moselsteig Trail that follows the entire German side of the Moselle River from Perl to the mouth of the river in Koblenz. The Nürburgring motorsports complex and the historic city of Trier are only a few kilometres away.
A visit to the nearby town of Cochem is a must, as well as the Geierlay suspension bridge.
