Architect Cornell Anderson Emphasizes the Drama of Oregon's Central Coast
We love the spectacular Oregon coastline and this house's strong linear lines and retractable walls of glass captures its stunning natural beauty to great effect. With soaring open interiors, sleek contemporary style and innovative indoor-outdoor layout, the house is thoughtfully designed with stylish simplicity and an emphasis on nature.
The open-plan great room soars to double heights with floor-to-ceiling windows and a large retractable door that opens out to the deck overlooking the marshlands and the sea, providing a continuous flow between the fireside living spaces and the eat-in chef's kitchen and dining area.
Dominated by the glass walls that focus outward, the main floor ascends to an open mezzanine office space above the two double bedrooms below. The en-suite master features its own cozy wood stove and a luxurious Japanese soaking tub, and both have private ocean views and an abundance of natural light.
The deck is perfect for entertaining and dining alfresco, with a fireplace and comfy spots to lounge overlooking the shore with paths from the house leading down to the beach.
This house is the ideal retreat that showcases the juxtaposition of great modern design and the dramatic beauty of the land and sea. Read about a visit to this house in our Stories section here.
EXPLORE THE WINDSWEPT BEAUTY OF THE COAST
Neskowin sits along the Pacific coastal region of Tillamook county and the Cascade headlands divided by pristine beaches and protected wetlands. Home to an extensive network of Nature Conservancy and state park lands, the area is dotted with hiking trails and scenic rainforests including Siuslaw National Forest and the Cascade network.
During low tide at Neskowin State Beach, an ancient Ghost Forest emerges from the Pacific Ocean, and the wetlands are home to a multitude of bird and marine life. Small and quaint, the town is sleepy in off-season and swells with tourists in summer. Located 60 miles west of Salem and 90 miles south of Portland, it's some of the loveliest and best protected coastline in the state.

Beautiful property, stunning view, and beach access via a lovely short hike. There were definitely a few cleanliness issues, but the beauty of the place made up for it!
What a special place! The home was designed to maximize hilltop ocean views from all the rooms and they will take your breath away. It is equipped more generously than any rental we have stayed in. We celebrated Christmas here and will definitely be back for the summer season! Jay is a gracious and responsive host!
The house is as beautiful as the pictures, maybe even more so. We saw a herd of elk pass through the grass right behind the house one evening, and a bald eagle as well. The beach below the house is pristine with lots of sand dollars at low tide. Note that it's a little over a half of a mile to walk to the beach from the house, but most of that is on a scenic trail through a wetland area. We also enjoyed driving to nearby towns and beaches.
Fantastic-designed home with gorgeous view. The host was spectacular— responsive, helpful, and friendly. We love everything about the house. It is very well-equipped—fully equipped kitchen, comfortable living room, spacious patio thru wall-to-ceiling doors/windows. Everything is top of the line including the washer and dryer, furniture, etc. The tiny drawback is the bed in the master bedroom, though quite comfortable, is two twin-beds pushed together making it awkward to cuddle with the hubby. Not a big deal for us, however. All in all, we were very happy with our stay. What joy!
The home is beautiful, the view is breathtaking and the neighborhood is quiet. We absolutely love spending time here in the winter months. We always leave feeling refreshed and thankful this thoughtfully designed home exists!
A wonderful architectural experience with impeccable views! Owner was very responsive and helpful. Unlimited bath towels. House had every appliance you could think of. The cedar soaking tub was our favorite part! Overall, very comfortable stay. Will definitely be back again!!
