Ebony & Ivory: An A-Frame of Contrasts
The ebony exterior of this A-frame cabin camouflaged in the Catskills cloaks its surprisingly bright white interior, furnished in Scandi-chic and 1970s mod style. With a soaring interior brightened by its loft-like, naturally sunlit volumes, this cabin for rent in New York offers delightful privacy and modern creature comforts in a clearing that is thickly wooded and secluded.
All black and architecturally notable, this tall, triangular cabin dominates a clearing in what feels like the deep woods of fairytales. The A-frame’s seclusion is actually limited, set as it is less than 10 miles away from the nearest town with its lively restaurants, shops, and breweries. Yet the feeling the cabin gives is one of delightful isolation, surrounded by an undeniably verdant landscape. Once past the front door, the mood changes. The peaked home’s interior is airy and sundrenched, with white walls and furnishings, an open plan, wood-floored common area, plus sweet, 1970s-vintage décor featuring plenty of rattan and cane accents, shaggy area rugs, and a fully-equipped, 21st-century kitchen.
Sleeping quarters include two queen bedrooms—one upstairs, one down—separated by the communal areas and sharing the cabin’s single bathroom. Bedroom and bath décor are minimal and thoughtful, rooms where art and tile selections pop against white walls, built-ins and linens. A long, lean farm-table anchors the dining area off the modern kitchen, and the living area includes a generous sectional, a wood-burning stove, and the A-frame’s steep interior staircase.
Outdoors, an elevated wooden deck forms a square off the A-frame’s base, and a below, on a brick pad in the lawn, a fire pit area is encircled with ebony Adirondack chairs.

Around
Located only seven minutes from the town of Livingston Manor, this cabin for rent in New York is surprisingly close to services, cafes, shops and restaurants. This part of the Catskills is well-loved by hikers, fly-fishers and birders, making the cabin an ideal base for exploring upstate’s woods, trails, and streams. Livingston Manor itself is crossed by the Beaver Kill and Willowemoc Rivers, well-known fly-fishing waters, and the hamlet has in recent years caught the attention of city-dwellers in search of farm-to-table restaurants, craft breweries, and art studios in charming settings.
Restaurants feature local foods, design shops offer upscale artisanal products, and there’s a natural wine bar and a Beer Mountain, a combination hiking destination and brewery, where you can walk off your beer, plus an additional brewpub of the more classic kind.
