Located in the Sporades archipelago in the northwest Aegean Sea, Skiathos is the smallest island in the chain known for its unique, forested interior vs. the arid, sunbaked island landscapes more typical of the Greek isles, Skiathos has more than 60 sandy beaches and frequently holds a leading spot on “best Greek island” lists. The island gained additional notoriety with the filming of Mamma Mia in its popular East coast town and harbor, where flower-filled alleys and small squares are home to shops and nightlife, plus restaurants, bars, and colorful cafes. Svelte yachts and funky fishing boats fill the town’s picturesque harbor. Yet part of what makes Ohlive villa special is its privileged location on a part of Skiathos Island that few tourists ever see, overlooking the spectacularly unspoiled bays of Kechria and the Pilion peninsula on the unpopulated western side of the island where the Mandraki natural reserve insulates the area from development. The region is home to some of the island’s most coveted beaches, including Elias, Mikro Aselinos, Ligaries, and Kechria, and hikers will also find their Eldorado on Skiathos, on trails leading up rocky slopes fragrant with wild mint, thyme and oregano, and ancient photo-ready ruins crumble.
