A Palazzo of Many Eras
Siena-based Paolo Mori of CMT Architects works in design, recovery and historic renovations, merging the weight and significance of history with the simplicity and clarity of contemporary design. His vision of luxury is defined not by formality, but expressed in the use of materials and craftsmanship, the artful selection of furnishings, and the prestige of the essentials.
Located in the historic center of the city, this holiday home in Siena has been layered with renovations for hundreds of years. Built on an original medieval structure, the palazzo was subsequently enlarged in the 16th century, with the stunningly intact frescoes and ornate design features added in the 18th century.
Mori's objective was to preserve and enhance the vivid features of the rooms by contrasting the historic aspects with clean, contemporary design and materials characterized by a sharp black and white palette and warm neutrals.
From the lovely bones of this palazzo comes a sleek new space that honors its history with a sense of lightness, allowing both the past and the present to shine.
Located in the historic center of town, this holiday home in Siena is housed in an atmospheric 16th-century palazzo surrounded by neighboring palaces and the sights and sounds of the city. Originally a medieval structure, the palazzo has undergone several layers of renovations through the centuries, with the latest addition designed by architect Paolo Mori.
Collaborating with local craftsmen to preserve the lovely features, the apartment now pairs a sleek contemporary perspective without detracting from or competing with its historic significance. Carved out of the larger structure, the apartment features the two main living and kitchen-dining areas capped with soaring frescoed ceilings, original marble and rich herringbone parquet floors, with custom designed furnishings made by local craftsmen.
Situated in the original medieval attic of the palazzo, the bedroom is divided into a hallway with a bathroom and a mezzanine. Here you'll see the ancient wooden framework and terracotta bricks. Showcasing its fascinating past with modern refinements, this palazzo has been given new life once again.
